The Blue Jays turned a triple play last night

The Blue Jays turned their first triple play in 33 years last night as part of a 4-3 win over the Royals.

The Royals got their first two runners on in the of the third inning against Blue Jays right-hander Kyle Drabek when Eric Hosmer ripped a hard-hit liner to Adam Lind. Lind snagged it, quickly stepped on first base to double up Yuniesky Betancourt and then threw to Yunel Escobar, who stepped on second base before Alex Gordon could make it back. Watch the play here.

It was the fourth triple play in franchise history for the Blue Jays and the first since September 21, 1979 against the Yankees. Interestingly enough, it was also the first time the Royals had hit into a triple play since June 19, 1979.

Anyway, it’s clear the Royals just can’t catch a break right now. They have now dropped eight games in a row, their longest such streak since they lost 10 straight from July 10-24, 2010.
