The best-case scenario, for everyone involved, is for the Red Sox to trade him away for a 8th inning reliever. He’s not that expensive for a 4th starter, and his salary comes free after this year.

As a Red Sox fan, I’m rather have Felix Dountknowhowtospellhislastnameyet and Bard gaining experience as starters. That’s a long-term plan.

No walks? That’s great news. Hopefully he can be effective when he returns the majors in a month. It’ll give the Sox more options if the starters continue to struggle and the bullpen doesn’t clean it up.

He skipped a start because of a rainout, and he’s not used to a full work load, so skipping him makes plenty of sense, as does throwing him in for an inning in a close game while he’s rested.

They should offer Dice a 25 man roster bonus, for good faith, of 7-8 million when he gets there. It’ll go along way towards the negotiations of a long term extension that ownership will surely pursue. Something like 4 years for 60 million. Hurry Larry, before he gets away (with the chicken and lice).
