Aubrey Huff misses doubleheader due to family emergency

Apr 24, 2012, 10:47 AM EDT

Aubrey Huff missed both games of yesterday’s Giants-Mets doubleheader due to an undisclosed family emergency.

Bruce Bochy told reporters that he received a text message from Huff earlier in the day saying that the first baseman/outfielder had to leave the team in New York, with the manager explaining that “something very, very important came up” and “he had to go home.”

There’s no word yet on when Huff will rejoin the team, but the Giants are apparently hoping he’ll be available as soon as tonight versus the Reds.

While hoping this emergency is nothing too serious, maybe they can extend his leave for the entire summer. Give him time to fix things. Or look for a team that can use a .182 hitter.

Even with Huff indisposed Bochy will still find ways to NOT use Brandon Belt.

Huff’s a good dude though. I hope whatever it is has a positive outcome.

Yep! Look, I’m a Giant fan and love Huff. We paid him for his 2010 season but it’s time Belt to step in.

Hope everything works out okay for his family.

But I hope this doesn’t make him look gutless or heartless to some HBT commenters.

Hope all is well, Aubrey. This sounds terrible.

I graduated with his sister, hopefully it’s nothing major.
