White Sox pitchers have been unusually healthy over the past few seasons, haven’t they? Hanging with Mr. Cooper seems like a good way to stay off the DL.

Yeah, because Cooper’s awesomeness is why those two games happened (which happened over 4 years, not 3)…it had nothing to do with the pitchers themselves being highly skilled or the vagaries of chance.

You know what? I’m a father, and my wife runs a day care out of our house (taking care of our two kids plus three others). It’s hard work. Damn hard work. But this elevation of the stay-at-home mom/dad — “It’s the hardest job in the world!” is preposterous. My wife and I have talked about this. She was executive director of a small nonprofit before, and she was FAR more stressed in that role than this one.

Parenting isn’t for everyone. And the first three months, when the baby isn’t really sleeping and you’re worried that s/he’s not gaining weight far enough, those are really hard. But if it was the hardest job in the world there would be a lot fewer kids. Being a parent is terrific. There’s days that are very hard — weeks, too.

I couldn’t be happier for him. Just a great story.

Funny how so many slammed pitching coach Don Cooper this spring when he said he didn’t need biomechanics to know how a pitcher needed to pitch to avoid injury, http://hardballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/03/23/quote-of-the-day-don-cooper-dont-need-to-think-about-no-stinkin-biomechanics/ but he now has TWO pitchers in the last 3 years to throw perfect games.

By the way, I read or heard that the first call he made after the game was to his wife and the first thing he said wasn’t “Did you see what I just did?” but “Did you have our baby?” He seems to have his priorities in order.

Although raising a child might be a little (littllleee) more difficult than throwing a perfect game. I’m not a father, but that’s just my guess.
