Terry Collins admits Mets don’t even know their own signs

Apr 26, 2012, 1:16 PM EDT

this is not a sign

OK, so is probably bordering on simply trolling Mets fans and they’ve had it tough enough, but manager Terry Collins’ quotes about the team not knowing their own signs is hard to ignore. Sorry.

Collins was asked why he doesn’t call for more hit-and-runs and replied:

That’s not necessarily true. We’ve missed a few signs.  There’s a few secrets that aren’t out there yet. That’s why I’m not worried about the other team [stealing our signs], because we haven’t got them [down] yet.

Collins told Mike Mazzeo of ESPN New York that the Mets have already missed two squeeze bunt signs and multiple hit-and-runs, although he didn’t get into specifics.

Ummmm….ahhh….well isn’t it the manager’s job to make sure the team knows the signs?

I mean, really, if the manager’s job is to set in-game strategy, and part it is communicating that strategy to the players on the field, AND it turns out that your players don’t know the signs…then remind me again why the manager is there?

Collins would be more aware of this issue if he showed up 5 min early for the meetings rather than just be on time…

You can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make him study the signs.

Were they missed, or ignored? Which would be worse?

Terry really has a thankless job at this point…I feel bad for him.

Is Terry really the best man for the job?

I can’t think of any manager whose signs I would prefer to miss or ignore than Terry Collins…..so….yeah, I think he is.

        Hahaha. Well played.
