Moose was often a visitor in the White Sox radio broadcast booth. He was always good for a few laughs. The year he played for the Dodgers, they beat the Yankees in the World Series. He said he couldn’t enjoy it because he felt bad for his old teamates. That was the Yankee in him. A great Chicagoan, RIP, Moose.

I had the opportunity to meet Moose a couple of times through Yankees fantasy camp. Nothing but a great man full of fantastic stories. He will be missed and always be loved. Rest easy, Moose.

Actually, the story goes that he got an “unfortunate” haircut when growing up in Chicago that made him look like Mussillini. Thus, “Moose” from when he was a kid.
I’ll really miss him at Old-Timers Day. RIP, Moose

Sorry to hear that. Just last night on the ChiSox radio broadcast, Ed Farmer said that he was ailing and he was going to see him today.

He owned and operated a bar for many years. There are thousands who would agree with you.

Only 32 years old, so I never saw him play. But as a life-long New Yorker and Yankees fan, learned about Moose from his appearances on WFAN with Mike Francessa. Usually Moose appeared alongside the late Hank Bauer. The two of them were essentially a comedy team. Lots of laughs and great stories about all the old Yankees.

I wonder how many of today’s “superstars” (let’s say… making more than $10 million per year) have better than a .292 average over the past nine seasons. Skowron lived in the shadow of all those Yankee superstars, but was still a great contributor to their success.

I remember him as a kid from the time that the only televised baseball we got was CBS doing the Yankess when they owned the team. He was part of an awesome hitting order, but he contributed his share of the pop.

Sad. Very underrated player. And he killed the Yankees in the ’63 Series in his first year
away from NY as a Dodger.
