He’d have to reach 500 hr’s to have any chance. He’s light on the hits at around 1900. He’s had an excellent last 5-6 years. He’d have to continue at this current prime production for the next 5 years or so (early 40′s). It doesn’t seem likely to me.

If the 36 year old Konerko continues to hit well into his upper 30′s as a first basemen, and is still mashing as a DH when he’s 40 or 41 or so, do you guys think he has a legitimate shot at the HOF?

Because I think, just like his “sleeper” career, he has a great shot at being a sleeper Hall of Fame choice. His home run totals may decline (although he still hit 39 in 2010), but Konerko seems to almost be improving with age, at least of late, from a strictly contact-hitting standpoint. Furthermore, he should have no issue hitting well over 500 home runs.

Here are his BA’s since 2003: .234 / .277 / .283 / .313 / .259 / .240 / .277 / .312 / .300 and he is hitting .383 currently. As long as the White Sox keep him on, which they damn well should, he should enjoy the rest of career in US Cellular Field’s right-handed power-hitter friendly field and hopefully make a successful bid into the HOF.

Not just in fantasy. He compares favorably to Tex, Gonzalez, fielder and Pujols, but he’s in the poor house compared to them. Sure, guys who really know baseball, know the score, but most fans might not include him on a list of top 1b in the AL.

I would have to agree, every year I get this guy in fantasy at a point in the draft where a guy with his production should not be available. Every year, without fail. Way less respect than he deserves.

Anybody see Dunn’s baserunning mistake last night? I swear, on a nighly basis, I see more fundamental mistakes in the majors than I see all season on a well coached high school team. Guys rounding second or third, looking over their shoulder to right field rather than peeking at your third base coach, then being surprised at how they get thrown out by a half a step. Any sprinter will likely tell you, that turning your upper body 180 degrees while sprinting does not increase your speed.

I’d bench Dunn for being in the league 15 years and not knowing to watch the third base coach.
