Thanks for proving a point.

Dice-K has .620 winning % in games he factors into the decision. If you did your research correctly, you would know that Hughes’ career numbers are 37-26, a winning % of .587 in 75 career starts. Again, you are incorrect, Freddy is 145-97 career for a .599%. Phil has a 4.58 ERA, Dice-K has 4.25, Freddy has 4.15… Hughes and Dice-K made their MLB debuts exactly 3 weeks apart in April of 2007. Phil hasn’t signed a long-term MLB contract, and likely won’t ever get a big deal unless his numbers improve. Dice-K surely cost a lot of money, but I think we can all agree he’s panned out better than Hideki Irabu.

So… Hughes WILL improve, but Dice-K won’t be any more effective… OK OK you’ve convinced me with that strong evidence.

No career? Since you used the term career, you should check out his numbers in Japan and the WBC. Then you really have zero argument.

Here’s a clue Giselle-
Freddie has had a 14 year career with 133 career wins to only 89 losses. Career 4.19 ERA. Dice is 49-30 with a higher ERA. Phil Hughes is 32-21 with the same 4.35 ERA as Dice and cost around NINETY FIVE MILLION DOLLARS LESS!!!

Dice K was pretty solid before he destroyed himself in the World Baseball Classic. He hasn’t been the same since. However, now that he’s had time to repair and recover, he seems to be looking a lot like his old self. So I’m pretty sure he’ll be plenty effective.

Really, no career to speak of, and Hughes is better? Get a clue, and here some #’s for you. ..15-12 in 07, part of the rotation that won a title, 18-3 in 08. Yes, he’s gone 16-15 since, and he hasn’t been as good as they expected, but he has been better and contributed more in his career than Hughes. People have short memories nowadays.

You’d be wrong. Hughes will improve. IMO, Garcia is finished, but he’s had a nice career. I don’t think Dice will be any more effective, and he’s had no career to speak of.

He went six days between his first and second rehab start. There’s no intent of getting him onto any four day schedule, so extrapolating a May 18 return is ludicrous. Maybe he goes to four days in between his next-to-last and last rehab start but I am quite certain they will take most or all of May before they bring him up.

The real question confronting the team is Cook, and are they smart enough to realize that Buchholz doesn’t deserve a spot in the rotation while Doubront does? There’s talk of Cook in the bullpen but why would he agree to that? I could see his sinker working but he’s been a starter a long time and wants to earn a new deal as a starter. I guess they could call him up and use him as they want to but that will only poison the well if they don’t give him a chance as a starter.

The Red Sox should move with the type of speed that Dice-K shows in between pitches. Slow down! Let him use those minor league starts to build up his arm strength. Other than Clay Buchholz the Red Sox rotation is now delivering decent starts on a regular basis. They also have to make a decision about moving Aaron Cook to the majors. Let Dice-K enjoy Pawtucket and some other AAA stops before coming back to the big club.
