By the end of April 2011, he was hitting .245 with 7 home runs in 27 games. By the end of May, he was hitting .267, but had hit only two additional home runs in 29 more games.

He’s getting older, and he’s been declining for the past three seasons. Most fans didn’t notice until last year, because he has such a long way to fall. So, he’s gone from one of the greatest players of his era to a very, very good player that’s probably overpaid. He’s not going to have an Adam Dunn-like collapse, and his offense will show up again. But I wouldn’t expect a season-long performance like he had in his prime in St. Louis.

Aside from the cliche of signing and collecting a bunch of high-priced players and that not working out (and the team the high priced guy left is doing just fine without him), didn’t everyone wonder how the Angels were going to make it work with a roster full of guys who pretty have the same skill set?

Pujols being this inept is surprising, but he never seemed like the right fit there anyway. With Trumbo and a two-legged Morales, the Angels didn’t need a first baseman or a DH.

The fact that we’re just sniffing May and the Angels apparently need a 20 year old kid to save their season is probably not a good sign.

Pujols weight is higher than his average, has as many HR’s as I do this year, and has 4 (FOUR), count em, four RBI this year. So with I/6 of the season gone, Pujols has been paid $1,200,000.00 FOR EACH RBI this year.
