There’s “a good chance” Victor Martinez will be back by September

Apr 30, 2012, 5:33 PM EDT

There was guardedly optimistic news last month when it was learned that Victor Martinez didn’t need a complete ACL reconstruction and thus would not need the entire year to rehab from his knee injury.

Add this on to the pile of good news:

I’m guessing the Tigers recent struggles aren’t gonna keep them from cruising to the division title. I mean really, as bad a week or so as it has been and they’re still only one game back?  They’re gonna be fine.  As such, having V-Mart back as an extra bat for the playoffs could be a nice boost for Detroit.

Would he be eligible for the playoff roster though? I thought those locked at the end of August

I believe a player who was injured can be added to the roster.

Too bad the Tigers will be ten games back of the Indians by September.

Hey, quit laughing! …Okay, you can laugh.

I feel like listening to a nostalgic version of “September Song”.

The way I understand it is all the Tigers have to do is put him on the active roster on Aug 31st even if he’s not ready , The rosters then lock and you can expand the rosters the next day.

With him catching, miggy at third and prince at first they can’t lose.

With 3 designated hitters in the lineup at the same time, it is not a forgone conclusion.

He would be DH, not catching… His career at catcher is done.
