Jhoulys Chacin has far more talent and ability than he’s showing.

If I’m the Rockies, and if they haven’t done it, I ask for another medical examination if Chacin is, as reported, is showing decreased velocity.

I’m guessing he has to be hurt in some way and that news will eventually come out.

However, let’s say that is not the issue. If so, then the demotion is necessary, but not to Colorado Springs, but to Double-A, not as punishment but as a place to work on mechanics and outside of altitude at Colorado Springs. I’d keep Chacin there until I saw increased velocity, healthy repeatable mechanics and consistent success.

I watched that game and I have to say, if I was seeing Chacin for the first time, I’d have been asking how the guy was in the Major Leagues. Mechanically he was a mess. During one stretch he was releasing the ball before he had planted his landing foot. And as you might imagine those pitches were high in the strike zone.

I’m not sure whatever ailing him is physical . . . but he’s clearly got some work to do.

Good call. I’m sure he just doesn’t care enough because bing a pre-arb player whose future income can dramatically fluctuate given performance offers less incentive to get his head straight than a few meals at waffle house.
