Ryan Braun returns to Brewers lineup, but Carlos Gomez likely headed for DL

Ryan Braun is back in the Brewers’ lineup after leaving Thursday’s game and sitting out last night with a sore Achilles’ tendon, but Carlos Gomez remains sidelined by a hamstring injury.

No official move has been made yet, but Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports that Gomez is almost surely bound for the disabled list tonight or tomorrow, leaving Nyjer Morgan and Norichika Aoki to split time in center field.

It’s not an ideal time-sharing arrangement because both Morgan and Aoki are left-handed hitters, and losing Gomez hurts because in addition to his always excellent range defensively he was off to a good start at the plate with a .280 batting average and .801 OPS in 21 games.

I like the idea of getting Aoki more at bats and I already trust his glove more than Morgan’s. Here’s to hoping Nyjer can find his 2011 form. Funny how the initial worry was that the lineup would be too right handed. I guess we over compensated by having all of our replacements left handed, not to mention the top options for being called up are all lefties (Green, Gindl, and Schafer).

    Ok, that’s a misprint. .280 and 801 OPS? That’s not Go-Go.

Man, I was really looking forward to watching today’s game… except that it’s effing blacked out in Texas with our regional game being White Sox/Tigers. Gotta love paying for mlb.tv premium and still not being able to watch a game. Does anyone know if this game would still be blacked out on DirecTV Extra Innings?

Yes, FOX has exclusive rights to Saturday baseball. They have the option to select from 3 time periods: 1PM EDT, 4PM EDT, or 7PM EDT. During whichever window they pick they have exclusive rights, meaning not even the local RSN can broadcast the game. I think the only exception would be for a make up doubleheader game, and then only in the RSN area, no Extra Innings broadcast. Same deal for ESPN on Sunday except their only window is 8PM EDT.
