WHY do they only award ONE of each award? Because it’s ONE LEAGUE.

MLB did away with the legal distinctions between the American League and the National League in 2000.

The AL & NL are no longer “LEAGUES” – they are for all effect and purpose legal or otherwise, “CONFERENCES” within Major LEAGUE Baseball.

Furthermore, if next year, we are indeed headed towards inter-league interspersed throughout the entirety of MLB schedule – then the concept of individual “league records” and “league awards” becomes even more convoluted and absurd.

But if there is one thing that Bud Selig has excelled at during his tenure, it’s convoluting what once defined the unique nature of Major League Baseball.

Yes, Hamilton would have been playing for an AL team, but he would have done it against NL pitching and an NL team. So how is that an "AL record"? It's just not logical. In my view most fans remain in denial. That team PR departments and/or Stats Inc (under contract with MLB) continues to send out press releases promoting an AL or NL record being tied or set is meaningless - or trivial at best. The reality is the only records that have any real contemporary relevance are Major League Baseball records. The relevance of those records went out the window when Selig got his way with inter-league.

I didn’t see the last two, but the first two were good pieces of hitting; the first was a good first-pitch curveball and Hamilton hit it like he knew it was coming. The second was a two-seamer off the outside corner and he drove it the over the left field wall.

He hit all 5 with Elvis Andrus at first. Got to be the easiest 5 runs Elvis will ever score. Hamilton had 5 two run homers and a double in 6 consecutive at bats. That’s 22 bases out of a possible 24. If he connects on the double, he’s got 6 straight and 5 in one game. Quite an achievement. Wonder if Cole Hamels would have allowed him to hit after the first couple.

The personel in Arlington seems to bend over backwards for Hamilton which is a good thing. The Reds did that for awhile but it would never have worked out with all of Brandon Arroyo’s Bro Bar guitar gigs. Way to go Ham Bone!
