Beckett hasn’t had downhill angle or leverage with his pitches in a few years. The ball has been coming out of his armpit with no finish. All signs, with loss of consistent velocity, point to a shoulder problem. He’s protecting that shoulder with compromised mechanics. He stopped throwing bullpens between starts last August. Why? Because his shoulder felt like crap. He is not healthy, refuses to give in and is mentally worn out from worrying about it. So he’s frustrated and turns into kind of an asshole about things.

I’m a Yankee fan, and Beckett is probably either my most despised, or second most despised player on that team, but anything that causes the media to go into full self-righteous mode just annoys me. Let’s all just keep it at beer/fried chicken/video games/golfing humor, and not try to make it into something more. Self-righteous rants about the sanctity of baseball suck. Beckett is having a horrible year. Beckett deserves to get wrenches thrown at him (metaphorically). Please continue to boo him, Red Sox fans. It is humorous. But please, no self-righteous rants. Looking at you, Gordon-Edes-article-I-just-read-on-ESPN.

Dice is on his way back though. And believe me when I say, I’m hearing Lackey needed Tommy John surgery was one of the happiest moments of this Sox’s fans life. Don’t even care about the money, just happy not to have to suffer through his tantrums as he gets rocked.

Thx spoon. That’s ugly. For some reason I thought this was his last year. He’s untradeable as of now. Thought they could deal him at the deadline if he improves at all. Setting aside replacement talent, they have three high value arms in Beckett, lackey and Dice they’re getting nothing from.

I’m a big fan of Francona as a person, but he was clearly too close to his players, and in the end, he let them walk all over him.

That’s a managerial failure. Of course, one could also say that these are grown men who don’t need to be watched like schoolboys.

I continue to feel bad for Valentine. The guy’s been set up to fail from day one. He’s GOTTA be regretting accepting this job…he wanted to manage again in the majors so badly, and this debacle may well guarantee that his entire career is viewed as one big nothing.

He really is garbage. He looks like a miserable jerk…………which makes him the perfect poster boy for this team.

It’s classic that the Red Sox figured the way to fix what was broken was to blame it all on the previous manager.

I’m going out on a limb and saying that wasn’t really the problem……………..although, based on the first month of the season, this entire team (with the exception of Ortiz) may actually be gooned on painkillers.
