MLB won’t discipline Kerry Wood for glove throw

While leaving the field following an ugly appearance Tuesday night Kerry Wood angrily threw his glove and hat into the stands, but MLB has decided not to discipline the Cubs reliever.

Wood turned the incident into a bigger deal by freaking out at reporters who asked about it afterward, replying: “Irrelevant, dude, and why the [bleep] would you even bring that up?”

Dale Sveum later said that he didn’t “condone” Wood’s behavior, but the manager added that “we all know in this game there is frustration that happens.”

There was presumably never any chance of Wood being suspended, but a fine wouldn’t have shocked anyone.

Was the glove kept or returned?

    • bionicbippy - May 11, 2012 at 3:30 PM

the problem is simple wood is a s[poiled BRAT, always has been!!!!!

Don’t you think a glove has enough heft to potentially injure someone if it’s thrown hard enough, or if someone isn’t paying attention?

I hate bringing up the Josh Hamilton incident, but throwing things into a crowd can be risky, and if it was launched in anger, even doubly so.

Josh threw a ball to someone a hundred feet up. (or something)

Kerry threw his glove to someone who, at worst, would have…tripped? Spilled their drink?

Definitely not the same, or any sort of similar, situation.

I KNOW it’s not the same situation. I’m just saying that there’s the potential for something to go wrong, especially when someone is in a state of anger.

Why is this an issue at all?? He was frustrated after a bad outing, so he got rid of his glove and hat! He’s done this in Cleveland. Also, why is it such a big issue that he responded to reporters the way he did? He didn’t want to talk about it, so he just didn’t answer the question! Geeezz

Yea lets condone this white trash idiot acting like a little baby throwing tantrums because him and his team are the laughing stock of the league. Keep getting this sorry organization’s back buddy. Priceless.

        @dangle13x…You dangle, alright.

    • larryboodry - May 10, 2012 at 5:39 PM

Well said, cubbiefan…And Kerry certainly didn’t freak out…The press freaks out whenever a celebrity or athlete dares to stand up to them in any way.

Kudos to Woody for using the word dude.

Why is he still in the majors? If he threw his glove away after ever bad outing Rawlings would have be build a new factory in China. It almost the middle of may and he ERA is like 15.00.

    • Jeremy T - May 11, 2012 at 5:33 PM

the fact that it’s the middle of May doesn’t mean much when he only has 4.1 IP…

Man, not a whole lot of love for a guy who has been a good pitcher for a long time, and a great guy for a longer period of time. I’d refer to this as an isolated incident, but even using the word ‘incident’ makes this seem more serious than it was.

This is seriously not a big deal at all, folks. Sorry I’m not sorry.

    • WhenMattStairsIsKing - May 10, 2012 at 3:06 PM

      Completely agree.

      • larryboodry - May 10, 2012 at 5:43 PM

        Me too.

  7. dangle13x - May 10, 2012 at 3:33 PM

Kerry Wood and the Cubs as a whole are flat out embarrassing, no surprise when the wheels come off he acts like a little baby. Oh sorry Kerry the reporter asked a question about your hilarious little tantrum. Maybe next year north side deluisonists.

    • cerowb - May 10, 2012 at 3:58 PM

Yeah….I may do some homework before labeling Kerry Wood “embarrassing”…

    • larryboodry - May 10, 2012 at 5:49 PM

@dangle13x…And remember, spell-check can be your friend.

      • lostsok - May 11, 2012 at 12:10 AM

Spell-check would help, but shouldn’t there be a Brain Check app for idiotic postings?
