Hey Chap, how does it feel to be cur’s dog? He thinks so little of your intellectual prowess that he feels he has to step in to think for you, because you are incapable of thinking for yourself.

How does it feel to have someone tell you what to do, i.e., “just ignore ‘protius’”, and “we can choose to ignore his bleating”, as if you are a child, and incapable of making decisions for yourself?

We were breaking each others balls about the Phillies when HBT’s resident ass-clown injected his self-esteem issues into our conversation. Did you notice how he needed to be one of you? “We can choose to ignore”………..please, no one asked for you to comment on their behalf. We were doing just fine without you.

You need to get a life of your own, and stop following me around HBT begging for attention like some forlorn little puppy. I’m starting to feel sorry for you now. Every time you challenge me, I hand you your ass.

You need to grow up cur, and stop butting into conversations between adults. And for God’s sake get some psychiatric help.

As a long time Philly fan the last few weeks have been difficult to watch at times. At this point I can only hope that when Howard & Utley return to the line up they will the Phillies, but that's not a guarantee. So, we will wait and see....through the ups & downs of this game we stick by this team. We cheer and boo with the same passion! You just never know what will "shake up a team" and next thing you know it's on a torrid winning streak. So Buyers or Sellers...hmm...we will see...I do agree though "all of this team is to be held accountable".

"It hasn’t been this bad in Philly in over five years, folks."

People really have short memories, because during this 5-year run, with the exception of last season, the Phillies had periods were they struggled mightily during the season. For the most part, they have been a second half team.

In 2007 they came from way back to overtake the Mets on the last day of the season.

In 2008 they trailed the Mets by 3.5 games on September 10th and went on to clinch on the second to last day of the regular season.

In 2009 they hovered around the .500 mark until July 4th and they went on a tear and ran away with the division.

In 2010 they lost 9 out 11 games in late May and trailed the Braves by as much as 6 games in July/August. They went on to win going away that year too.

So, go ahead and write them off if you want to, but don't be surprised if they come back and make you all look stupid once again.

In fact, here's a post by Craig from this time 2 years ago when the Braves swept the Phillies. If you scroll down and read the comments, everyone was writing the Phils off then too, except for one person, or should I say one genius:

I would agree that Amaro is probably just trying to light a fire under the guys. Didn't Lee Thomas do the same thing in July '06 by saying that the team would not compete until '08?

As for Hamels, who doesn't perform well in a contract year regardless of where he wants to play next year?

Being swept by the Mets is no reason to panic. No one panicked following any of a few 4 games series being swept by the Astros in the past few seasons.

But something must have changed. Last season began with lots of injuries, and no one was worried, and the team started well despite the DL. Is there a bad influence in the clubhouse this year?

A beat reporter from the Philadelphia Inquirer walked into the Phillies locker room after a loss and as he looked around the clubhouse he saw a little monkey come out of the shower room and waddle up to his locker.

The reporter looked down at the monkey and said “I wish you could talk.” The monkey looked up at the reporter and nodded his head up and down. “You can understand what I'm saying?” asked the reporter. Again, the monkey nodded his head up and down. “Well, did you see the game tonight?” “Yes,” nodded the monkey. “What happened, asked the reporter? The monkey made a fist and moved it up and down. “They were really jerking it out there, huh?" asked the reporter.”Yes,” nodded the Monkey. “

What else?” asked the reporter? The monkey grabbed a ball and let it drop, and then he kicked it, and picked it up and let it drop again. “They made too many errors?” asked the reporter. “Yes,” nodded the Monkey.

“What else?” queried the reporter? The monkey grabbed a bat and swung three times, and then swung three times again. “they struck out a lot!?” asked the reporter. “Yes,” nodded the monkey. “Now wait, you're saying the Phillies were making errors and striking out a lot?” “Yes, the Monkey nodded. “What were you doing during all this?” asked the reporter “Pitching,” motioned the monkey.

I hope the Phils do re-sign Hamels. It just makes me wonder why there seems to be no movement on the issue. Maybe he is kind of waiting to see how things unfold. Maybe he does want to sign back up and Amaro has decided he wants to part ways with him. Who knows. It will be interesting to see Amaro's comments in the near future. It seems to me that when a team knows it won't be retaining a high profile player that you start to hear little clues here and there from management in an attempt to start breaking the fans in to the news.

I hope the Phils do re-sign Hamels. It just makes me wonder why there seems to be no movement on the issue. Maybe he is kind of waiting to see how things unfold. Maybe he does want to sign back up and Amaro has decided he wants to part ways with him. Who knows. It will be interesting to see Amaro’s comments in the near future. It seems to me that when a team knows it won’t be retaining a high profile player that you start to hear little clues here and there from management in an attempt to start breaking the fans in to the news. I really don’t see any of the NL East teams running away by the trade deadline. It will be interesting to see if Hamels is signed by then or not and how Ruben reacts if the Phillies are still in the race, especially with the extra wildcard this year.

Shane Victorino had an accident and needed a brain transplant. The team physician told Ruben Amaro, “Brains are very expensive, and the insurance company won’t pay the cost, so the team has to pay for it themselves.”

“Well, how much does a brain cost?” asked Amaro. “For a Phillies fan brain, $500,000. For a monkey brain, $200,000,” replied the doctor. Amaro nodded in agreement because he thought he understood. But Charlie Manuel wasn’t satisfied and asked, “Why the difference in price between a Phillies fan’s brain and a monkey’s brain?” “Standard pricing differential,” said the Doc. “The monkey brains have to be marked down because they’ve actually been used!”

Can you imagine the amount of torment and disbelief that Roy Halladay must be going through right now. When he signed with the Phillies, he thought he was going to a team that gave him the best chance of winning that World Series ring that he wanted so badly.

What do you think he's feeling as he watches his team knuckle-walking their way through a series with the New York Mets?

Should have signed with the Yankees Roy, you'd already have one ring, and you'd be working on a second.......LMAO

reacting to xmatt's comments - sure it is possible that Hamels would love to go back to the west coast. and his mind, Lee, Hamels, HOward, and Utley aren't getting young. But SD isn't going to be winning anytime soon. LA is a better fit.

Maybe - Hamels for Ethier . or

How about this one -
Hamels to Bosox for Middlebrooks and Doubrant !!

Sox already said Middlebrooks won't learn how to play OF in Boston. So when Youk is ready, Middlebrooks gets sent down - not that they don't want him - but with Papi at DH, AGone at 1B, and Youk at 3B, Middlebrooks has no place to play.

Let Polanco teach Middlebrooks all there is about 3B. Doubrant has promise as well.

I'm not shocked by this at all. There was much talk about hamels signing earlier in the year and how it shouldn't take too long. Now he still remains unsigned and according to the writers there seems to be no logical reason for this. There actually are very logical reasons for it. People keep talking about locking Hamels up. Has anyone ever thought that maybe Hamels doesn't want to be locked up in Philly? Or maybe Ruben sees that if he does lock up Hamels at close to $25 million a year that he will have a $140-150 million payroll for just 6 or 7 players and he finally has realized that the fill-ins he thought he would surround his core of stars just aren't good enough to really compete? Maybe Hamels himself has determined that this team will be in rebuilding mode in a year or 2 and he has no interest in being part of that. Amaro could easily just be greasing the skids with his comments for what he feels is an inevitable parting of the ways with a free agent pitcher he knows is pretty much out of the door. Even if the Phillies come back in a division where no single team will likely run away from the pack, do you keep Hamels in July when you know he won't be signing? He can always spin it that with Lee, Halladay, and worley that he has enough pitching to compete and that he had to trade Hamels. It will be interesting for sure. The only positive is that the team has hit a low point with everything yet they are still just 5 games back. As far as the Mets fans chirping, give it a rest. You do this every season when you have your one little run in May or June. Then you know what happens. You don't have the talent of the Braves, Nats, or the Marlins. Worry about that before you worry about the Phillies. Nobody in this division is running away from anyone else. The Mets should be competitive, but not much else.
