It was many people’s first thought when the news of the death of Red Sox P.A. announcer Carl Beane was heard yesterday. But today the Sox have made it official:
Yesterday we lost our friend and voice, Carl Beane. Tonight the PA mic will be silent in his memory. #VoiceofFenway

A nice move. We often take people like the P.A. announcer for granted. But tonight, in his absence, Carl Beane will be remembered.

Well done Sox, a touching tribute to the Voice of Fenway
May Mr. Beane welcome everyone to that great Fenway in the sky

Not a dry eye in the house, as they say.

Wonder if the Red Sox read hardballtalk, as this was suggested by at least one commenter. Very classy move.

Sad day at Fenway and for all who love the Sox. Have a good one Mr. Beane.

I wonder if a batter’s walkup music will still be played. I could see it going either way.

It’s the right move but now the players will have nothing to help them from hearing all the booing for their performance thus far this season.

I was at the Royals/Redsox game last night in Kansas City. They had a moment of silence in his honor before the game. Classy move.

Total class on the Bosox’ part.
