You’re just as cut-throat and hostile as any fan in the country, cut from the same cloth as Philly fans. But for some reason Philly takes all the lumps, and cities like Boston and Chicago are “great sports towns”.
It’s not earth-shattering, just an observation. Fans run onto the field, beat each other’s brains out, and do stupid stuff every day all around the country, but they’ll dredge up a story from over 50 years ago about Philly fans throwing snowballs at a drunken, skinny Santa.

Wow, it’s a good thing this isn’t happening in Philadelphia, because we’d have to hear about how we ruined the poor guy’s career for the next 50 years, and what louses Philly fans are.
Instead, since it’s Boston, they’ll just talk about what a gritty, heady baseball town it is. If it happened in Chicago, it would be all about the lovable bleacher bums and how Beckett ruined the franchise.

Thank you for this: ‘It’s one thing to point to an instance of performance and/or behavior and say “that is bad” or “that is dumb.” It’s another, far more serious thing altogether to say “that person is a piece of shit,” which is what Passan is doing here.’

I think I might be Beckett’s only remaining fan, but I’m not going to defend what he did on the mound last night. I hope I’ll have many more chances to cheer him on, but that will depend on his pitching, not his golfing, and not his failure to follow the script according to Crash.

If Josh had gone 7 innings and given up 2 or 3 runs, this conversation wouldn’t be happening.

Did they hate Tito’s guts too? this is just a continuation of the chicken and beer biggest collapse in history finish to last year. The Sox failed in spectacular fashion last year and took no responsibility, especially Josh. It was God’s will according to the Huge pick up in last off season Adrian Gonzalez. They changed the GM and Bench Manager and it’s still the same crap going on. This team hasn’t been likable in years, but that was ok when they were winning, now that’s not the case it’s time to cut the dead weight. Even the pay $100 cover charge to drink $8 beer and sing group karaoke crowd is leaving in droves. So what’s left is disgruntled fans who see a team that doesn’t give a damn and feel no loyalty to that team after being priced out for the better part of a decade by co-eds who wanna be seen, sing sweet caroline, and bust out the freaking wave, and their anger is directed at the highest paid starter, who claims to be to hurt to start while swinging his driver, got fat in front of our eyes and shrunk from all responsibilty for the I love beer,popeyes, and x-box culture that sunk the team.

I just made it 5 because the dude has credibility! He’s a Yankees fan first and fantasy baseball player second. I happen to be a Red Sox fan first and fantasy player second.

In 20+ years of playing fantasy baseball I have NEVER had a single Yankees player on my roster until this year. I drafted Michael Pineda because I was gonna flip him to a Yankees fan for a Starter I wanted.

Now I’m stuck with Pineda on the DL on my roster for the year.

Not that it would have mattered. The Pitcher I was gonna trade for was Clay Buchholz.

Talk about your convoluted schemes, eh? Never again.

No one is “scapegoating” Beckett. Other individuals in the organization are getting their fair share of the blame too. This displeasure with Beckett is not anything new. Fans have just finally had enough. They are not angry just because he is playing poorly. They are upset because he has consistently shown a lack of professionalism, and ownership has done nothing but coddled and enabled him. Last year he let himself get out of shape and whined when he did not get to pitch to his personal catcher. He was a big part of their collapse. This year he has shown no change in his attitude whatsoever, and he refuses to take any responsibility. Judging by your use of the word “Beanbags,” it’s obvious that you are just looking for any excuse to dump on Red Sox fans. Stop grasping at straws.

Be careful though, one full season worth of UZR data is bad enough to base any conclusions on (need at least three), let alone just a month or so. It’s how you end up with weird things like the Royals high rankings in SI.com’s power rankings since their team UZR was very good.

However, considering they have backups playing all 3 outfield positions and one infield, I doubt their defensive efficiency is very high.

Passan is a douche. Plain and simple. However, YAHOO is hemorrhaging money right now so they’re paying to write about baseball, of which he knows very little. I stopped reading Yahoo Sports articles long ago because they treat their sports journalism the same way they treat their astrology, no care as to accuracy.

Josh Beckett’s “soreness” was only so Aaron Cook could be brought up from AAA before the deadline. It had nothing to do with any soreness or injury. So yeah, he played golf. Beckett never said he was injured, Valentine never said it, Cherrington never said it. Passan can go work at the National Enquirer or the Star. His talent for bloated sensationalist bullsh*t should serve him well there…

You truly are clueless, Calcaterra.
If Beckett cares at ALL about the Red Sox, or about baseball, or about how he performs for 490K per start, he’s done a fine job of hiding it. People just want him to at least pretend that he gives a flying bleep. For literally a half a million dollars per start, they’d like him to appear as though he cares at least a little when he performs so miserably. His response yesterday seemed a deliberate attempt to alienate and offend fans, to make it clear that THEY may be distraught over his performance, but to him it’s just a job, like any other guy punching a time clock.
No one likes a guy who makes that kind of money and doesn’t appear to appreciate it one bit, and who appears utterly unwilling to actually work for that money. Eighteen days off? C’mon. More like eighteen WEEKS off. I work 250 days a year, for a couple thousand times less money than Josh. I care more about the quality of my work, I work harder by FAR at my job, than he does at his.
Yes, this article is right on, it doesn’t go over the top one bit.
Give a bleep, Beckett. Just give a bleep. Until you do, I’ll be booing, and wishing for nothing but bad things for you (on the field). Go to bleep, and take the utterly oblivious Calcaterra with you. As much hate as Calcaterra spews at players far less offensive than Beckett, he stands up for Beckett??? Seriously????
Hmm… if he was not a white guy, would there be a different reaction? If he were a black man with the identical attitude, would the reaction be different from Calcaterra? I’m not at all sure…

At this point, all I can do is shake my head in disappointment. True, Beckett had a terrible night last night, but he’s had bad nights before this as well as many good ones… Our entire starting rotation has lost … something… we can’t blame it all on one guy… I just hope that they can turn this season around soon!
