Well, I can't say I didn't see it coming, but it is just too late. I love Shane, he is a great baseball player and an even better person! That being said, he should of been traded last trade deadline when younger cheaper guys became available like, B.J. Upton, Zobrist, Sean Rodrigez, etc. The Rays needed Vets and the Phillies needed youth. But more importantly guys like zobrist and Upton that been to the big show before and can hit the ball. We can't pay Shane what he's worth, truely worth and the Rays know that they won't be able to pay those guys soon enough. So why not get a proven vet that can provide leadership for a couple years to come, too late now. Shane is a free agent and lost value to teams like the rays who could afford to give up youth for experience. I read a few people's post about how he fell our. Now the truth, he is a 4 time gold glove winner and a 5 time all star. So in 07' when he became a starter he has never been just ok. He was still a top player last year with that low average. HE wasn't a super star but he was in the top 7-24 in 20 majors stats used by MLB to gauge players. Using that he was ranked 19th overall show he may not have RBI's or Average but he has everything else that a team needs to win it all. Shane is one of my favorites but the Phillies needed to exchange him for youth last year, now he will walk away after this season and we get nothing and even worse on offense. TOUGH PILL TO SWALLOW, either way, lose him and get youth or get nothing as we will now.

my point is that he is expendable especially when howard is back. yes when you have 5 outfielders for three spots that is stocked. My fridge is stocked with beer....crap old chesterfield cans...but still is stocked. Trust me in a philly perfect world we'd keep him and Cole right after we battled back in the NL east and won the world series... but the fact is we probably can't keep both so he is expendable unless you just want to let him walk at the end of the year. You should certainly listen to offers and if the return is right seriously consider trading him

As a Jays fan who honestly thought it was a good deal for both teams, I don't for one second believe they are looking for a new CF. This is just due dilligence. Always liked Rzcezpzpzklzski too, and he was the key it turned out.

Uhm...Victorino is one of the few guys we SHOULDNT be looking at moving...

Should never have resigned Rollins to that ridiculous deal. We have known for a couple of years now that Utley is done and his knees arent capable of withstanding everyday rigors of baseball. Howard was given a contract the size of Montana, and was highly excessive. Polanco is overpaid and on the backstretch of being over the hill. We are stuck with a huge payroll and none of these contracts expire anytime soon.

The only 3 players I am totally happy with (not including pitchers) are Victorino, Chooch, and Pence.

They should have brought Gillick back in the preseason just as an advisor. He built the team into a contender, and RAJ has spent the team into a team in a downward spiral. We traded away most of our good prospects, and killed others (Brown)

As much as I love the Phils, this is starting to look like the end of the road for this group of players. I feel bad for Doc and Lee, but it was inevitable, and it looks like the time has come.

They won 102 games last year. They lost to the hottest team in baseball in a 5 game series (should be a 7 game series by the way, 5 games isn't right in my opinion). It isn't like they still can't win, they have a bunch of key guys injured. They went for it with those trades and I'm glad they did. It doesn't always work out but they tried. Before 08 we finished a couple of times a few games out of the playoffs, if they went for it then we would have a couple of more playoff appearances. A couple of trades and the farm system can be better then it was. The key is to not hold on to guys to long, to where you can't move them because of age, contract, or injuries.

I hope the Phils don't trade Victorino, he's on my fantasy team and playing at Citizen's Park definitely increases his production a little.

That said, why on earth would the Blue Jays want to even consider this? Nothing against Victorino but the Jays have a terrific/fantastic/phenomenal OF in Snider, all they need to do is actually give him a chance**. CF: Snider - RF: Joey Bats - LF: Rasmus/Thames/Davis. (Thames is the most consistent of all those - trade Rasmus for pitching).

**Look at Chris Davis (BAL) now that he is getting consistent at-bats.

Meanwhile, Colby Rasmus is crying in his locker, not understanding why the team would want to replace his .665 OPS. I am sure that once out of the hellish conditions that Toronto is putting him through he will finally live up to his potential.

I'd say it's debatable because the guy is coming off arguably his best season. He had the highest OPS of his career, only missed his career high in home runs by one despite playing in 15 less games, and set a career high in triples. He only stole 19 bases, but that's because he was only sent 22 times.

I don't think have a poor 32 games on a team with a terrible offense around him after having what might have been his best season is a sign of regression, it's just a sign of a guy struggling on a whole team that is struggling. Now if we're at the end of the season and he's ended up with a .700 OPS and terrible defense, then maybe the discussion can be had, but as of now it's still too early.

He is slowly regressing? That is 12 kinds of wrong/stupid. He had easily the best year of his career last year. His wRC+ over since 2008 has been 112, 114, 107, 135, and 101 (this year). He's essentially one good series away from his career average. Oh yeah, and he's been a plus CF every year since 2008 as well, including this year.

This is what happens when you trade the farm, players get old and your replacements were sent out to another organization. Sure for the short run it might work but ever since Amaro went on a trading binge, the team has not won a world series. They won with guys like Brett Myers, Cole Hamels, Joe Blanton, they didn't buy their teams then. The shelf life for an athlete isn't long so you should always prepare for the worst which is obvious the Phillies have not.

I guess you figure with Pence, Pierre, Nix and if he gets it together Dom Brown you have a pretty stocked outfield. Factor in Mayberry once Howard is back and it makes Shane expendable especially since they won't pay him.

I've also been really disappointed/frustrated with Shane's inconsistency especially in the outfield. He'll chase down balls no one in baseball would get to but then biff routine plays

Bookmark this page. See you in July. In any event, it looks like the owners have taken the checkbook from Amaro. That's why he just sent out the get-it-in-gear warning to Cholly and the gang.

Not surprising since Victorino is in a contract year and may be the only tradable commodity that could bring back some immediate help. Not sure who would play CF though. The season has started painfully enough without the thought of John Mayberry Jr. patrolling CF on a daily basis. I know the brass likes Tyson Gillies and are desperate for someone from that Cliff Lee trade to contribute at the MLB level, but he may not even be ready next year.

I'm just curious as to who the Jays would have to give up in such a trade (a trade that I think is highly unlikely to go down, but it is fun to speculate). I assume Lawrie is untouchable in any deal. So d' Arnaud would be included in a package with who? Drabek? Snider? Rasmus? Would be fascinating if it happened, but I doubt it will.
