Funny thing is, I didn’t actually bestow that name upon him because of his power, but because…well…I saw a photo of Stanton in part-profile that actually looked just like the animated character, bearing down during an at-bat with his jaw and chin line set, and his eyes as blank as a shark’s. It cracked me up. So I used it once, not meaning for it to stick, and a couple of other correspondents here picked it up, so….The resemblance of the robot with the physique needs no further emphasis, though.

He hit Tommy right at its base and the ball bounced back onto the field. If anything, he got under it a bit too much. But you gotta hand it to that horrible thing: it put on its show as if nothing was wrong. No matter: Tommy is right in the middle of the Iron Giant’s power alley. Sooner or later, he’ll be whacking chips off of it. By the time he’s finished, it’ll look like the 2001 monolith.

Meanwhile, if it turns out that the ball has a pink stain on it, it should be destroyed. We don’t want to offend our exile dinosaurs again.

I think Mike Stanton was trying to do America a favor by destroying that monstrosity in CF with that bomb. He just got a bit to trigger happy and pulled the ball a bit.

The Mujic Man has been kinda shaky too of late. He’s been roughed up and a bit wild his last two times out. The Feesh’s boolpen has been a crapshoot most of the season, though before yesterday’s fiasco it did seem to be settling into a bit of a groove.

Francisco’s peenting woodcock impersonation did not go unnoticed down here, drawing some snide comments from the Feesh announcers and already enshrined in the recap on the Macondo Feeshwrapper virtual sports pages. but at least he didn’t have to suffer the humiliation of coughing up the walkoff dinger to a guy with a pink bat like Acosta did.

I concur with old gator that iron giant is the perfect name for Giancarlo Stanton…that home run was not only a grand slam but it was a damn moon shot…I think maybe the marlins should put Stanton insurance on the home run sculpture
