@ Old Gator: Sounds like you know your way around a PT. Here's how I roll: The PTs soak in a apple cider/garlic/salt/pepper brine over night. I build the fire on one side of the Weber kettle, using charcoal. The PT goes on the cool side, topped with slices of dry copa and above a drip pan half filled w/more apple cider. The copa note only bastes the PT, but also serves as a great snack. Once the PTs are done (I typically sear over direct heat for approx 10 minutes after grilling for 70), the PTs are sliced thin and serves on slider buns, topped w/cole slaw.

The Iron Giant just crushed a walkoff slam off Acosta to sink the Mutts, 8-4. Yours truly will extrapolate more fully on the game during tomorrow's ATH right here on Circling the Bases. For the time being, though, it is worth noting that the thing all Feesh fans have been waiting for, the proto-mythic moment of which we have dreamed and speculated ever since Scrooge McLoria unveiled his strychnine-laced acid nightmare in far left field, the moment we knew would eventually arrive but dared not predict right down to the date, hour and moment, the coincidence of the possible, the probable and the inevitable, has actually happened: the Iron Giant actually bounced his dinger off Tommy itself! Of course it was a slam, the perpetual metaphor of the cosmic quaternity!

All that follows must necessarily be anticlimactic.

No Dungeness crab? Pah. I mention this only because, out here on the sunrise side, the stone crab season ends on Tuesday, and all that deliciousness withdraws into the deep until October again. Joe's Stone Crab closes for the season - it was a good season in which none of their disgruntled employees hijacked any buses - and if you want grossly overpriced seafood in Macondo you gotta go find it somewhere else.

Pork loin: crush a tablespoon of black peppercorns, mix with a couple of crushed, finely diced garlic cloves, salt, pepper and a quarter of a cup of unseasoned panko crumbs. Place this into a plastic bag, throw in the pork loin, and jiggle it all around until the loin is thoroughly coated. Grill as you normally would. Ohboy! You can also saute the sucker if you brought along a pan and a couple of sticks of butter.

With 14 days to go to the 26th anniversary of the Chernobyl disaster, Ricky Nolasco's evil twin decided to celebrate a couple of weeks early with a meltdown of his very own. Among his peccadilloes yesterday: walking the bases full twice in the 1st and 5th innings, plus plunking two batters, including the beloved idiosyncratic Mutts flitterballer R A Dickey with the sacks full in the 5th to drive in a run. The Other Ricky exited in the fifth having miraculously yielded only six runs, to which deficit the Feesh boolpen generously allowed three more. Ricky picks up his first lost of the season and adds nearly a full run to his ERA, which bulged like the Atlantic at the supermoon from 2.72 to 3.65. The Feesh were 2 for 11 with RISP, giving them a .199 BA in that situation for the season, worst in the majors, and demonstrating that they've gotten nowhere fast atoning for their near-bottom-of-the-tank situational hitting profile from last season. And to have David Wright, suffused with Josh Hamilton envy as he is, on something of a rampage didn't help the Feesh either.

I have a theory, and I'm going to explain it to you all even though the peer reviewers at Nature returned it to me without comment last month. Ackcherley, they returned it without bothering to open the envelope. Maybe I shouldn't have penciled "Warning: Contains Massive Paradigm Shift" on the back. Anyway, here it is. Excited? Okay. The strange attractor exerts a severe gravitational pull at three games out. It consists entirely of Higgs bosons so it's very hard to see. I believe the Feesh hit that zone of turbulence on Friday night, suffering stress fractures in their peetching feens, and failed to achieve breakaway momentum on Saturday. Well, it's not really my theory. It was the rule of thumb before Chuck Yeager broke the sound barrier. Maybe Krazy Karlos needs to tattoo "Glamorous Glennis" on his peetching arm this afternoon before he goes out to face the Mutts and David the Dynamo.

Meanwhile, I gotta run. I have to run to the post office and send my theory to The Journal of Irreproducible Results. I've been a subscriber long enough that I know they'll at least open the envelope thinking it's a renewal check.

The second very nice outing for Hughes in a row. Still keeping his fastball in the 92-95 MPH range the entire outing. I know his ERA of 5.50 doesn't sound very impressive but in just about 1 month he has lowered it from 9.00 to 5.50 a very significant drop. And in his last games his ERA is 2.70 and strikeout to walk ratio of 5.50 to 1. A significant improvement for a guy some/many had written off just a few weeks ago.

The Jays have been fun to watch on defense all season. There were 3 unusual play last night. One Twin hit a hard grounder that Lawrie dove for. It bounced off his glove right to Escobar who easily threw out the runner. A later Twins hit went off the pitcher right to Escobar who threw the runner out. The most unusual play came on a pop foul over Lawrie's head that he had trouble catching up to. It bounced off his glove into the glove of left fielder Thames who just arrived. Thames would never have caught the ball if Lawrie had not gone after it. On both plays involving Lawrie, I doubt that any other third baseman would have touched the ball. He has great range and speed.

For some unknown reason Jose Bautista hits well in Target Field. In the 10 games he has played there he has hit 10 home runs including the game winner last night. Mighty Casey pitched a perfect 9th for his second save since becoming the closer. Cordero tried to blow the lead in the 7th, but was unsuccessful.
