It’s Mother’s Day, sure.

But it’s also Andy Pettitte Day.

As expected, the Bombers have promoted the veteran left-hander from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and will start him on Sunday afternoon in their series-finale with the Mariners at Yankee Stadium.

Cody Eppley was optioned to the minor leagues on Sunday morning to open a 25-man roster spot for Pettitte and David Phelps has been demoted back to his long-relief role to create the necessary opening in the starting rotation.

Pettitte, 39, hasn’t appeared in a major league game since the 2010 season.

He agreed to a minor league contract with the Yankees in mid-March after spending a year in retirement and registered a 3.71 ERA in four rehab starts before getting clearance late last week to return to the Yanks.

Pettitte is expected to throw around 100 pitches Sunday against the light-hitting Seattle lineup.

What do you mean by “Mother’s Day”? I thought that it was “Old Timers Day”.

Hey! Who said I had a mother?

      • proudlycanadian - May 13, 2012 at 1:37 PM

        Mine died in 1996.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the mother’s out in HBT land.

He is pitching against crappy Seattle? How would Andy do against Texas or Detroit?

Which is like the reason why the Yankees decided against him making one more AAA start, .. hitting wise the M’s are AAAA.

Donald “Duck” Dunn (Booker T and the MGs bassist), RIP.

Agreed. If you look at some of the old Sam and Dave or Otis Redding videos, Duck Dunn is the blond haired guitarist.

Andy, getting his feet wet with the anemic mariner squad. Get er done.

Hey buffalo mania, you mean the tigers that the mariners swept in Detroit and are 4-2 against this year?

Pettitte was pitching well until the 4th inning when he gave up a HR to Smoak after a Montero single. With the hit, Smoak moved his average up to the Mendoza line. Millwood is pitching for Seattle and is in trouble as I type this.
