Umps make bad calls. It’s been part of the game since there’s been a game. Deal with it and grow up. It all evens out. I guarantee at some point Lawrie will get a ball four called his way that paints the corner. Think he’ll complain?

Either way, I absolutely guarantee this: letting the umps know you deal with bad calls by turning into a tired 3-year old will NOT get you the balance of those close calls.

As far as his MLB experience goes I don’t see a thing Harper has done wrong yet. Both guys have a bit of minor league douchery but so far Harper’s hasn’t actually shown. Lawrie’s now has.

Agree. And, FTR, if he wasn’t a Born Beaver Wrestler, playing on the Beaver Wrestlers…I wouldn’t be so charitable towards him. His IS kind of rivaling Bryce Harper for being a smidgen out of control with the youth type stuff.

He made some bad calls, I certainly wont argue that. The way Lawrie came at him any person would show fear though. Lawrie isn’t the first guy to go ballistic but its not like a 60 year old umpire will be able to handle a 23 year old player seeing red.

Lawrie is very good but seems to be more of a punk that everyone wants Bryce Harper to be. I agree there was no intent to hit the umpire with his helmet but he went unglued. It’s not necessarily unheard of in baseball but the guy has to do better than that. The only one who looks bad here is him, regardless of how bad of a call it was.

Brett, Brett, Brett…I love the kid, he’s a great 3rd baseman, but…he’s gotta keep his temper. Ump screwed him over, no doubt about it. But, his reaction prolonged his screwing over for the foreseeable. The rest of the Umps will take note and the kid’s not gonna get anything close for a while.

I’m glad that idjit Miller wasn’t hurt but he needs a suspension himself for hosing Lawrie like he did with those BS calls. He sucks at his job and is a vindictive worm for inciting Lawrie like he did. He knows the kid’s hot headed and he deliberately goaded him with the calls. He knew Lawrie would lose it. What he didn’t expect was the helmet toss or the outright aggression: love the fear on his porky face as Lawrie came at him. Maybe he’ll think twice before goading the next guy.

is Bill Miller contrite? when was the last time Joe West was contrite? I really dislike watching games with this guy in it. And he is usually IN IT.

This somehow reminds me when Charles Barkley threw a guy through a window in a casino. He told the judge that he was sorry…sorry that they were in the first floor.

And, Lawrie apologizing for the helmet hitting the umpire is not the same as him recognizing that his inappropriate overreaction was in fact the problem is really BS. His apology is like a guy saying; he’s sorry he ran you over with his car but fails to understand that his running the red light was the problem.

See that’s what grown ups do, .. when they make a mistake they own it and learn from it.

Miller is a just a gasbag who needed a wake up call himself for such crappy calls. That being said, Lawrie needs to cut down on the Red Bulls between innings, he’s amped all the time and he’s going to have to learn to keep a lid on it before he gets in more trouble.

Have any of you seen the angle at which Lawrie threw the helmet? I’m not sure there was any way the helmet WOULDN’T have hit Miller–it was thrown directly toward Miller but at a downward trajectory. And the fact that Lawrie is appealing the despicably paltry 4 games shows he’s terribly childish.
