Cardinals outfielder Carlos Beltran was named Player of the Week in the National League on Monday after batting .360 with six home runs, 13 RBI and 30 total bases between May 6 and May 13.

But he hasn’t started a game since that announcement and is out of the Cardinals’ starting lineup again on Wednesday night due to lingering soreness in his surgically-repaired right knee.

This according to FOX Sports Midwest on Twitter.

Allen Craig will play right field and bat cleanup behind Matt Holliday as the Cards open a two-game series with the Giants in San Francisco. Beltran has a 1.054 OPS, 13 homers and 32 RBI in 35 games this year for St. Louis. He told reporters that he’s hoping to return to face his former team on Thursday afternoon.

Bummer for Giants fans who would like to see him again. hopefully he plays tomorrow and gets some cheers from the fans here who appreciated him last year.

    Feel better Beltran

Watching some of the pregame on Fox Sports Midwest, seems as though there maybe a “foot issue” as well.

Matheny downplayed the chances of Beltran going on the DL but that was also the early company line before Puma and John Jay went on it so file that with a boulder of salt.

Thank god I asked for a few boulders last time I went to the salt store. I’m afraid I’ll be needing them.

He’s always good for about 90-100 games a year.

Exactly why I’m glad the Cards paid for both Berkman and Beltran. You know they would both be losing some games to injuries. Hoping the tag team approach keeps them manned up all year.
