That year wasn’t their first anniversary. Their first anniversary came when they had been around for a full year. So that was 1963.

Ergo, 2012 is the 50th Anniversary for the Mets. Just like 2012 is celebrated as the 100th Anniversary of Fenway Park, but its the 101st season that the Red sox have played there.

So Selig actually isn’t wrong. (This time.)
