Great Moments in Bad Defense: the Seattle Mariners

It’s hard to find an uglier all-around play than this one in last night’s Indians-Mariners game.  It started with a double steal that seemed to confuse Jesus Montero. And then the confusion was compounded when he and his teammates decided to throw the baseball all over the place.

But check out the hustle on Carlos Santana. Not bad. Especially the slide:

It’s a shame there isn’t video of Garza throwing to first on two bunts from Pierre. Both were so bad it was actually funny. How a pitcher can be as good as Garza is at throwing over home plate and can’t throw a ball further than 4 feet when aimed at first is beyond me. Pierre was safe both times and should have been thrown out both times.

Montero hasn’t gotten where he is because of his prowless behind the plate.

As a Mariner fan I am going to blame Chone Figgins. Why? He sucks so bad it’s rubbing off on everyone else.

Yeah this play and one later had me spitting F bombs. These are major leagers. And yesterday there was the video of a tee-ball player making an unassisted triple play. It hurts to be a M’s fan sometimes.

Yes, being an Ms fan is a form of penance. Figgins? Yeah, I blame him for generally stinkin’ up the place, but I also blame Ryan.

    Oh, and League.
