With a 0.48 ERA too. He’s been outstanding. And to think coming into this season there was speculation he’d make it to the rotation. No we sit on Arrieta, Chen, Matusz, Hammel and Hunter, with Britton on his way back (probably forcing Matusz or Hunter down) and a stud in Dylan Bundy about 1 1/2 out. Hunter aside, this is a young and very solid rotation with a solid bullpen (Strop, O’Day, JJ, Lindstrom…and I’m missing somebody else solid). This pitching staff has taken a full 180 and credit belongs to the Duke and moreso Rick Adair. He’s been a true hero for us.

No. The score was 2-2, and he gave up a three-run homer. No save situation there, so no blown save.

Johnson has been great for O’s.

I think he is on a 30 save streak going back to last year. It’s around there anyway.

The thing about a few of these teams is that, in order to blow a save, you have to first have a lead.

Saves are a dumb, largely meaningless stat…by default, so is the blown save.

Goes to prove what I say about not really trusting any closer. Which is based entirely on gut feelings and years of being a Mets fan (where even the best of closers – Franco and Wagner – were utterly fallible).

And goes to prove that most of the time, you might as well spend less on your closer and use that money for other positions. A moderately priced closer is often worth as much as a pricey one in the end.
