I watched the recap of his debut, and i thought he was a japanese descendant… most of baseball players here are.

Gomes was 2 for 3 in his major league debut against the Yankees. He went up hacking before striking out on his first at bat. He then had 2 singles, before being replaced in the field by Vizquel.

I guess if he was australian, he would be playin with the A’s!

Now i wanna see some north americans playing soccer in brazilian teams!

In 39 spring training at bats, Gomes was .399/.590/.923. His Triple A numbers were quite similar.

Gomes was a very exciting player in spring training. Long term, he is unlikely to be a catcher, because the Jays have a couple of better catching prospects in the minors. He might end up playing 4 games at third as well as alternating at First and DH with Encarnacion. They could have called up Cooper to play first base, but Gomes has more power than Cooper.
