It does. Probably the explanation for its demise. I just started following baseball at a time when a number of pitchers relied on screwballs. Perhaps the mosty successful was Mike Cuellar, who had some great seasons with the Orioles.

The gyroball is just a stabilized fastball with supposedly lower stress to the pitchers arm. The screwball is something impressive to see. Much like the shuuto (which is essentially just a higher velocity screwball). Yu Darvish used to throw a screwball several years back, but stopped because of the strain it was putting on his arm. He has shown he can still throw it as he has thrown a hard screwball, or shuuto, a few times with the Rangers. He does not seem to have the control on it that he once had in Japan.

That sucks for Feliz, but there are two awesome things about Tateyama being recalled. One is that Yoshinori may be the coolest name ever, and the second is that it means we get to see some screwballs.
