Of course you can steal first. Swing at an 0-2 pitch five or six feet off the plate and get going. I’m pretty sure if you batted me leadoff I could reach base like that after a few (hundred) tries.

The way teams shift for pena its a decent idea. Shift is on he can have a decent chance to bunt. Runners on limits shift being used against him and he is a power threat. I like the idea seems logical, guess that means it is doomed to fail.

Love that Vic Power has the most home runs of any first baseman while batting leadoff. For a guy that wasn’t really a power guy (never hit more than 19 in a season, 126 in his career in over 6,400 plate appearances), at least he can hang his hat on that.

Upton Zobrist and Joyce have the same or better OBP, and all are better hitters than Lee.
The idea is fine, the choice of Lee isn’t.
Getting one of those 3 more AB’s than Lee is preferable
