agreed! Melky's throw was a no hop laser from left field and Buster played it perfectly. Cain looked good, striking out 7 with no walks (wont mention all the hits or 4 runs but the G-men scored 6 so that;s what matters). And Busters moon shot off the centerfield scoreboard? nice

When you get 1-hit, it's hard to find anything positive in a game. The A's this morning are probably reduced to saying that Pennington put on one of the great displays of defense at short in the first 3 innings of the game, part of an overall team display (including Donaldson's official Web Gem tm) and Cowgill's toss-out of Kendrick at the plate. The A's had 5-count 'em-five great plays in the first 3 innings.

And they needed every one. New-Guy "My Man" Godfrey's first pitch of the game to Trout was an 87 mph mushball that had Trout so startled that he jumped back out of the batter's box with a look that said it all: damn, I could've killed that pitch. From then on, the Angels were smokin'.

Albert's homer was on an 86 MPH Mark Leiter Special that could not have been anymore perfectly centered in the zone. The tense and emphatic conversation in the A's dugout between Curt Young and Bob Melvin seemed clear: "Get the Sacramento Shuttle back here, this kid's got nothing." Godfrey came out of the game with a "cramp" in his pitching hand in the 3rd. I like that one. It's original and can disappear as mysteriously as it appeared.

The A's have the distinct pleasure of facing Jered Weaver today, as he attempts to best CJ's one-hitter. Rookie Jarrod Parker faces him today after his wost start of his young career last time. Personally I think Parker is the real deal, making the Cahill trade worth it by himself. Could be a good game.

I'll take a stab here: depth. Something the Indians lacked last year. While our rotation has been solid, we still have Britton waiting in the wings, allowing us to either drop Hunter back to the pen or possibly put him on the block. Depth in the field as well, where the fill ins are playing like starters and the injured Reimold, Roberts and Reynolds are all itching to get back and get in the action. For once we are going to be buyers not sellers, and have the depth available to make the right moves. Not saying we are aperenial playoff contender now, just a much improved version of what we used to be.

Pre-empted? By basketball??? That's terrible. I'd rather watch a 24-hour "Titanic" marathon.
But I have similar problems when the Astros are pre-empted. The local radio network has enough power to knock down an incoming ICBM, but the announcing has taken a turn south. Milo Hamilton is safely over the hill, and Dolan and Raymond are chatterers.

I look forward to the new Astros' network next year. Especially if they keep the present FoX SW crew.

You knew watching it that when Ruiz turned around for the 2nd time that if he said anything with the word "strike" or "ball" in it then he was gone... but, still, I'd really like the umps to not always have to have the last word and have thicker skin. NFL refs get totally screamed at and they just either look stone-faced towards the field or calmly explain their ruling. It takes a lot to get ejected, let alone even draw a flag. I'd love to see fewer managers and players kicked out of games.

What a coincidence. The Heat's destruction of the Pacers pre-empted the usual Feesh cable television broadcast at Tobacco Road last night, and the radio broadcast was shunted to some little pirate station transmitting from a hand-cranked generator based on one of the abandoned stilt-perched feeshing shanties in Biscayne Bay. Nobody wanted to tell me what its band was so I had to follow the game on my dumbphone, which my odd Hemingway hound Fido tells me is about as much fun as trying to eat from a bowl that's been left outside your crate.

The Rocky Mountain Oysters' peetching staff collapsed last night, as usual, after they put up a fourspot against Ricky Nolasco's evil pod-person twin - only his pod twin can hit, so his two RBI double in the third was a dead giveaway about which one we were dealing with, and Ricky-pod and the Feesh won. Kevin McCarthy would have loved it. Ricky is now the all time Feesh wins leader with - and aww, isn't this just too poetic - sixty nine victories.

I said this earlier this season. Big Roy's fastball barely cracks 90mph these days. Seems to move ok, but maybe it was the velocity he threw at that made the movement effective? But without the true heat to blow past the hitters he's just not the same guy. This worries me.

Nationals Park - North?... Staking claim to someone else's park and you can't even show up to your own.

Oh, how dominate the Nationals have been vs. the Phillies. Great, you won 2 games in Philly this year. You really want to brag about beating the Phillies in games last year? Is that like a moral victory after getting beat 27 times between '09-'10? Or all you can get out of another losing season?

It's still pretty early and the Phillies are playing with Mike Fontenot and Hector Luna every night. Why dont' we wait and see for a couple months before you start staking claim to another city's park.

Gloryhole fans are bending over backwards to compliment everybody involved in this year's unexpected run except Peter Angelos. Why, you'd think there was no Peter Angelos. Faced with the prospects of having to eat crow the size of a Thanksgiving turkey for a family of ten that's invited all the aunts, uncles and cousins over for the holidays, Baltimore fans have maintained the kind of silence about their beloved owner that used to be reserved for knowing when your boyfriend was sailing on a container ship for Liverpool in 1942. You'd be led to believe, based on the utter silence, the refusal to acknowledge his mere existence, that there never has been a Peter Angelos. Where are the accolades for the dark genius who shaped this team? Where is the acknowledgment of the secret moves, canny trades, clever drafts and, above all, the bountiful generosity in keeping two generations of washouts and hasbeens employed in the game that finally paid off in this exhilarating first quarter of a 2012 season?

Come on, Baltimore - if Milwaukee can erect a statue to the wretched Bud Light, you can construct a Colossus of Camden Yards to bestride the harbor and keep benevolent watch over your destiny. Don't think. Just do it. It is only fitting and proper.

In order for it to be dubbed "Nationals Park - North" you need fans to go there. Hell, in order to be considered a "fanbase" you need fans.

aceshigh11 how does them being in first place now "prove they are legit." Last year at this time the cleveland indians were 30-15 at this exact date, they ended 80-82.
