Speaking as a Phillies fan , i’m very interested to watch the Hamels saga unfold this year. Let’s assume that the Braves don’t run away from the division (the only team I could see doing it) and the Phillies stay within the wild cart spots and the division. What if Hamels, due to his needing 7 years or just plain not wanting to stay, makes it pretty clear to Amaro that he is pretty much a longshot to stay? Does Amaro have the stones to trade Hamels while the Phillies are within striking distance of a playoff spot or risk losing Hamels for just a compensatory draft pick at the end of the year? I think they have to give Hamels what he wants just for the age factor in comparison to Lee and what appears to be a slightly declining Halladay.

I’m surprised the Phillies signed Rollins, but to me the Phillies are always surprising me with their signings, good or bad.

The Rollins contract is bad, but the Howard contract is a joke, I’m guessing Amaro can see the window closing

What will they do with Hamels?

Honestly… did we miss him? They should have let him walk. Galvis is arguably just as good as Rollins on the field, and has been better at the plate. Not that Galvis has been GREAT batting, but better than Jimmy, that’s for sure.

drmonkeyarmy, we’ve been waiting for years for Jimmy to stop popping up and swinging at shit pitches. He’s lost all pop in his bat but hasn’t lost his uppercut swing. It seems like Amaro has been talking about “getting Jimmy going” for about 3 years now.

Really. He’s a slumping (or is he done?) 33 year old SS due $30M over the next 2+ years. That and $25M will get you a middle reliever.

As for power, if Ruben Amaro, Jr. called, Derrek Lee would probably answer.

I could be wrong but I think the first time the post went up it said something about Galvis being at 2B and Fontenot starting at 2B. That would indeed produce a huge infield gap for Nats hitters. The comment doesn’t make sense if the post was corrected to reflect the fielders proper positions.

Oh hey great….since he has been out his replacement on the field (Fontenot) and his roster spot replacement (Kratz) have pretty much equaled his season production. Needs to pick it up at the plate. Immediately. I am willing to cut him something of a break because his wife was pregnant and perhaps his full concentration wasn’t on baseball, which would be understandable. Now, he needs to focus on not popping the ball up and swinging an shit pitches.
