AA operates by stealth and reveals nothing to the media about upcoming player transactions. Furthermore, placing a player on waivers is supposed to be confidential. Any team official who correctly said that a player was placed on waivers would be breaking the rules of baseball. I assume that there is no rule preventing placing false rumors.
