UPDATE: It was a misunderstanding; the Roy Halladay bobblehead catastrophe has been fixed

May 24, 2012, 11:33 AM EDT

UPDATE:  The Roy Halladay bobblehead travesty has been explained and corrected!  It seems that the wrong photo — from some early messed-up prototype — was used. Now:

11:33 AM: And no, I’m not talking about the poor likeness of him.  Look at this for a bit and tell me if you find something amiss:

Answers in the comments please.

Really? The goddamn thing has him throwing lefty?

    • chadjones27 - May 24, 2012 at 12:14 PM

It’s reverse lefty actually. His legs are set to throw righty, but the glove and ball are set to throw lefty. That’s even worse.

      • hammyofdoom - May 24, 2012 at 12:44 PM

I knew there was something that was off that I wasnt noticing. Yep, that makes it even worse. How the hell, did Bobby Valentine design this thing?

      • Utley's Hair - May 24, 2012 at 1:04 PM

Hey…if anybody cam pitch that way, it’s Doc.

(I was going to say he’s the man, but Harry said that about Chase, so…)

  2. shawnamer - May 24, 2012 at 11:35 AM

You mean besides the fact the windup is all backwards?

    • ajcardsfan - May 24, 2012 at 11:48 AM

Obviously he was checking the runner at first!

    • The Common Man - May 24, 2012 at 11:53 AM

Also, Roy Halladay doesn’t smile. He bares his teeth and growls.

      • annaalamode - May 24, 2012 at 1:07 PM

Don’t forget the glare like you stole his kid’s lunch money.

  3. drmonkeyarmy - May 24, 2012 at 11:35 AM

Why in the hell is is throwing left handed from a right handed wind up? And that is the worst likeness of anybody on a bobblehead I’ve ever witnessed.

    • Jonny 5 - May 24, 2012 at 12:28 PM

What? Maybe he was trying to see how throwing with a glove on his throwing hand one day felt while wearing a Brad Lidge mask and an unsuspecting artist ended up with this likeness? It’s possible….. Right?

      • heyblueyoustink - May 24, 2012 at 1:20 PM

I dunno, looks more like the JC Romero chinstrap to me.

  4. fthrvic - May 24, 2012 at 11:36 AM

HA! These are probably the same people who make the little league trophies that say “FRIST PLASE”!

  5. jeffhink - May 24, 2012 at 11:37 AM

At first I was like… he’s smiling, that’s not right. Then I saw the hands. So really there’s two things wrong.

  6. thephilsabide - May 24, 2012 at 11:38 AM

The Big Roy is a righty. Boo.

  7. astrosfan75956 - May 24, 2012 at 11:38 AM

Wow, Lefty what a screw up.

  8. jgraening - May 24, 2012 at 11:40 AM

I know pitching is an unnatural motion, but this is ridiculous.

  9. ndnut - May 24, 2012 at 11:42 AM

Not only is the glove on the wrong hand but his windup it righty, which means that he would do a 180 and throw to 2nd or absolutely screw up his elbow.

  10. hisgirlgotburrelled - May 24, 2012 at 11:43 AM

i was going to guess the black shoes, but i think there might be a more glaring mistake than that.

  11. The Baseball Idiot - May 24, 2012 at 11:45 AM

It doesn’t proprly showcase his ‘bicepts’?

    • umrguy42 - May 24, 2012 at 1:32 PM

Forget the rest, I nominate this comment for winner of the thread…

  12. scottp9 - May 24, 2012 at 11:45 AM

The glove’s on the wrong hand.

  13. delawarephilliesfan - May 24, 2012 at 11:46 AM

    Great Goog-ily-moog-ily!

    • Utley's Hair - May 24, 2012 at 12:10 PM

      Who are the Chefs?

  14. cur68 - May 24, 2012 at 11:47 AM

That’s not Harry LeRoy Halladay III, in any way shape or form. Its some lefty checking 2nd prepping to get called for a balk, is what it is.

    • cur68 - May 24, 2012 at 12:20 PM

Actually, scratch that. Not only is not a righty like Big Roy, he’s not a proper lefty either: he’s lifting the wrong leg for a lefty about to pitch. Could this be a depiction of some Amish Minor League Lefty Guy attempting to execute the patented Pettit, fake to 1st, throw to 3rd move and we see him here mid-move? I know, I know, I’m grasping at straws, but I just want the world to make sense!

  15. paperlions - May 24, 2012 at 11:47 AM

Maybe he’s smiling because he’s going to pitch his glove instead of the ball and knows (with his superior bicepts) he can still blow it by the hitter.

  16. papasadappa - May 24, 2012 at 11:51 AM

Pitching mechanics aside I think Roy usually sports a beard, not that jock strap, Amish beard look…as you can tell i hate that look.

  17. mj1818 - May 24, 2012 at 11:53 AM

I think it is saying the phillies stink this year so he is throwing lefty

  18. Chip Caray's Eyebrows - May 24, 2012 at 11:55 AM

    It’s not ugly enough.

  19. El Bravo - May 24, 2012 at 12:00 PM

    He’s a righty

  20. Alex K - May 24, 2012 at 12:00 PM

I imagine he’s now going to finger roll the ball to the plate.

    Worst. Bobblehead. Ever.

  21. number42is1 - May 24, 2012 at 12:01 PM

OH I KNOW I KNOW! he is wearing Philly pinstripes when he should be wearing Yankees pinstripes?

  22. mississippimusicman - May 24, 2012 at 12:07 PM

Leaving aside the idea that it’s inaccurate for a second, how would this windup work for any lefty, ever? It’s like it’s designed to suck. Why does the manufacturer even have that mold? It would be next to impossible to generate any power at all with your throwing arm in front like that. I can’t make it out in the photo, but those arms have to have been molded separately, and they just screwed up and put lefty arms on a righty body.

    • cur68 - May 24, 2012 at 12:15 PM

Initially, in my mind, the only way it worked is if that’s a lefty, he’s checking a runner on 2nd, and preparing to throw 90 degrees to his leg lift: he’s balking. But, upon reading your comment, I think you’re right: he’s a righty bobblehead in a righty windup with the wrong arms on. He’s lifting the wrong leg for a lefty. This bobblehead is an instant collectable; a depiction of the most un-baseball thing ever in tribute to the most baseball guy in MLB.

  23. cubsrice - May 24, 2012 at 12:11 PM

Why is he smiling? Because he knows something you do not know…

    Who the hell is that?
