Chipper Jones is very impressed with Stephen Strasburg

Chipper Jones has been teammates with future Hall of Famers Greg Maddux, Tom Glavine and John Smoltz and he got to see plenty of Randy Johnson, Pedro Martinez and Kevin Brown during their heydays. Stephen Strasburg, though, might outclass them all:

“He has the best stuff, the best repertoire of pitches that I’ve seen on any one single pitcher,” Jones said Friday.

It’s a lofty statement, but it hardly seems completely out of line. The 23-year-old Strasburg has used his 94-98 mph fastball, curve and changeup to great effect this year, amassing a 4-1 record, a 2.21 ERA and a 64/13 K/BB ratio in 53 innings.

And yes that’s a very lofty statement coming from a guy who has seen many greats up close

I laughed out loud when I read this headline. Chipper is always dishing out flattering compliments to other teams/players. He deserves the farewell standing ovations he is getting at each ballpark this season. I’m not a Braves fan, but Chipper has been one of my baseball “idols” for as long as I can remember.

Why lump Kevin Brown in with two hall of farmers like Johnson and Martinez? Brown stole money and retired in disgrace as I recall.

You can put Lincecum or Kershaw in his place if you’d prefer. Brown, though, was just about as nasty as anyone when he was at his best, and while he won’t get in the Hall, he has better numbers than a few guys already there.

Famers not farmers. Stupid auto correct.

The “Hall of Farm” is just a few minutes away.
