They are unfounded rumors. They could have come from me. I doubt MLB will come knocking on my door. Nor should they care to pursue it. If resources were devoted to every unfounded rumor out there, so much time and money would be wasted. It's a non-story. Move on. Don't demand MLB's time on it. Shoot, maybe Pedro Gomez is the source.

Hey, thanks for explaining what quotation marks mean. Not sure how I even made it this far in life with out that handy info, you're a life saver.

Did you have a point beyond that? Did I say anywhere that Trost was misquoted? (It's something he said over the airwaves anyway, so it's beyond dispute). But, I didn't dispute that in anything I said. I noted that the News is making his response the story instead of backing up their own. Because they can't.

But the Daily News is now also implying they're right and Lonn was perhaps out of loop and is making himself look silly now. So if there were "baseball people" talking out of turn about the early stages of a sale, as the News is disingenuously still trying to infer today, why wouldn't MLB or the Yankees want to know?

“With respect to Major League Baseball, we (the Yankees) will ask the commissioner (Bud Selig) to undertake an investigation and take appropriate action.”

See the quotation marks around this statement. It means it is a quote from Trost. It means dude seriously does want an investigation into where these unfounded rumors came from and somehow hold those people responsible.

It's funny watching suckers get played. Even better when they cop a snarky attitude about it. Like Craig.

Mort Zuckerman's Daily News "story" on the potential "sale" of the Yankees is a joke. Nobody is quoted, anonymously or not, in baseball or outside of it, as having any knowledge of any discussion about anything, other than "swirling rumors". It's anonymous speculation by third parties asked to comment on a non-story by the writer(s). It's a completely manufactured story. If not, then since Hal and the organization have issued complete blanket denials now, the Daily News should be able to go back to their original "sources" and, still anonymously, have them give some more background on the nature of the supposed "sale" discussions as they witnessed or understood them. Apparently, according to the article, there were baseball sources as well who were aware of these supposed opening overtures in the Yankees considering a sale. What do they have to say now, and if they do have such knowledge should they have been talking about it? Especially that early in the supposed process and with the biggest, most high-profile franchise in the league, in it's largest market, involved? No, that couldn't possibly be something MLB would want to know.

I don't think MLB needs to investigate the source of these rumors, mostly because they would amount to essentially nothing. It's clear the entire article in regard to baseball "people" is them offering opinions, and nothing more, that after the Dodger sale the Yankees must be considering seeing what they could get.

So then Mort Zuckerman's Daily News publishes an article that will get lots of attention and lots of traffic to a dying paper based on nothing. Again, since there is no sale pending lets have one of these financial "sources" clarify or expand on how the Yankees are in fact now lying, that they were in fact exploring a sale. But we aren't getting that from the News, we're getting "hey look, that Yankee guy is off his rocker!". Complete with quotes from more "baseball" sources to back up the claim. And closing with ominous allusions that maybe Trost was out of the loop on this one and is now lashing out. Apparently other "baseball sources" knew of these discussions, The Daily News knew all about 'em, but Trost didn't and now he's over reacting and embarrassing himself, ha ha ha!! And at least on sucker is lapping it up.

But driving traffic to articles on your website with hyped up, or ridiculous, headlines couldn't be anyone's motivation? Nah, that would be -- crazy.

Uhmmmmm . . . why would Trost even state that the Yankees would or will ask CEO Selig to investigate the 'dubious' rumor? Unless, that is, there is some truth behind it.

On a related note, the only other Lon's I know of were the Lon Chaney's - this being Lon Chaney, SR:
