As both a BP subscriber and a Nats fan who saw Milone pitch last September, I'd say his potential is to be better than John Lannan, a similar type of pitcher. In other words, he can fill a slot at the bottom of somoene's rotation. Of the 4 propsects the A's got for Gio, Milone was the lowest-ceilinged.

Interesting how the Nats and Fish situations are paralleling right now. The RISP hitting is up and the closer has failed. Tyler Clippard is handling the 9th-inning duties capably.

Recently, when Bad Henry(tm) kept showing up, you asked if the Nats needed Heath Bell. Now it's my turn to ask, do the Fish need Henry?

Drew, drew, drew....four of those five wins were against the mariners. I love them, but I know better than to believe the angels have turned a corner until they start producing like that against a team in the top of the league. Although pujols did homer off Felix..lout Felix had a hard day overall, so....yeah, ifi were the rangers, I wouldn't be overly worried about the angels catching up with them until after they beat a good team or two. Like, say, the rangers.

The Yankees pounded out another 3 HR game against the A's, feasting on Bartolo's insistence on throwing nothing but strikes, then putting the game out of reach in the late innings off "My Man" Godfrey whose motto, "I Got Plenty o' Nothin" will soon be featured again in Sacramento, where he is the Doc Gooden of the PCL. Up in the bigs, GG has 87 MPH and a look of fear that reminds me of a salmon confronting a grizzly. On a happier note, the Yankees leave after today. The big crowds are fun, getting bombarded is not. Len and Uyf have to be happy though. Seeing their team take BP for 2 games has to be just want they needed after a tough stretch.

Tommy Milone goes against Hiroki Kuroda today. Kuroda is due for a good outing, and it's a coin flip as to which Milone will show up. I'm not sure why Melvin would pitch Godfrey yesterday with Milone scheduled today. On his good days, Milone is what Godfrey aspires to be: a right-handed mushballer with pin-point control. The problem of course is that Baseball Prospectus proved pretty clearly 2 years ago that if you are a righty with under 91 MPH stuff you won't last at the MLB level. Where's stat-oriented evaluation when you need it?

Jimmy, you're just brain-locked on the Fat Freddi days...they're over, my friend. Relax. Have a sangria. Pull up a chaise under your palm tree - even if it's plastic and nylon - and get comfortable. This is going to be a fun season.

Especially if we can get the Angels to take John Buck. Hell, they took Vernon Wells, didn't they?

Oh gator, how we disagree about Ozzie, but I digress

Heath Bell once again found his evil twin and thankfully, Ozzie unlike other managers knows enough to go get his closer before the game ends

I like that the team has glaring holes that are managing to be covered up with good defense and solid execution and better luck at the end of games

Coda: heard a cool factoid on the pregame broadcast this afternoon and I couldn't wait to share it with you.

But you can't have any of my ribs or dwarf Cornish hens, got that? And I don't want to catch your toes in my cole slaw, either.

Okay, the factoid - the Feesh are batting .356 with RISP in the four out of six games they've won on this homestand so far. Yeah, I know - I've been bellyaching up a repressed housewife's cargo of frustration over the team's seetuational heeting since the meedle of last season. So, this is a really tonic stat. Let's see how far it goes.

It was one of those odd nights, again, for the Feesh. The Iron Giant gave us a break and didn't chip any more paint off of Tommy. Buehrle pitched workmanlike ball again and got the win. Heath Bell damned near blew it again; Slobbering Ozzie came out to yank him and Steve Cishek saved his ass again.

I've noticed that Ozzie has been more or less behaving himself since his Che Guillen phase came and went in an what seems like an augenblick - it sure does seem to be redshifting in a hurry (nyuknyuknyuk). So he's not running his mouth, and you wonder how he releases all the pent-up idiocy pressure. I think I know now: by yanking his reliever.

There's something about an Atlanta Braves uniform that seems to make the Washington Nationals play better. No logical explanation, just one of those random things in life.

Strasburg scuffled, but the offense and Tom Gorzelanny picked him up. Nice to see a Nats starter have an off-day and still win, after weeks of good starts with losses and no-decisions. The Nats have scored 15 runs in 2 games; in April, that was their average week. BTW, Michael Morse is supposed to be back in time for the visit to Fenway in a couple of weeks..

Young Mr. Harper had another interesting game. He took second while Jason Heyward fielded his base hit nonchalantly. He made a poor throw when he had a chance to throw out a runner at second. He hit a very hard line drive to the opposite field off a lefty (Jonny Venters), barely clearing the wall, then did his home run sprint. Stuff happens when Bryce Harper plays. Much, though not all, of it is good.

Gio vs. Beachy tonight. Much potential for a good pitching duel.
