Dustin Pedroia, who left yesterday’s game after jamming his right thumb, is absent from the Red Sox’s starting lineup tonight.

He’s considered day-to-day and it’s possible Pedroia could make an appearance off the bench, but in the meantime Nick Punto is starting at second base and batting ninth against Justin Verlander and the Tigers.

Pedroia had started each of the Red Sox’s first 48 games, hitting .295 with five homers and an .800 OPS.

That’s fine, at least the rest of the team is perfectly healthy. I’m sure their star-studded outfield will help to pick up the slack.

They looked pretty good against Verlander last night

I didn’t want to say it, but when Sweeney came back I wondered who the Baseball Gods would smite next.

NY radio reporting that Pedroia will miss at least on month with this injury.

Just get Jerry Remy’s lazy ass out of the press box. He’s the president of RS Nation, I figure it’s time he actually proved himself…..
