The larger question for the Phils is whether they are too old to compete at this point. If so they may look to trade Hamels before the deadline, for prospects or younger established players. If not, they would want to keep him. But again, there will be enough interest so that it shouldn’t have much if any effect on what he ultimately makes.

The Phillies are an old team with a lot of long and expensive contracts and no impact bats or arms close to the majors. I doubt keeping Hamels will make a huge impact on their ability to compete the next few years.
