I heard a stat somewhere that Halladay has given up the least amount of home runs across MLB in the last decade or so. Something along those lines. The years may be off but it is definitely the fewest number. So.....what was your point again?

No worries though, because he fleeced you Biotches for some mean gr$$n.......

They are 4 games back and it's not even June yet. They played horribly in April and have picked it up a bit in May... even with Halladay pitching bad. I'd say they're still in it. So, unless someone is willing to trade a lot away to get Hamels, I doubt the Phils will be selling. He's their only solid starter (that gets wins... poor Cliff Lee).

I'm a phillies fan and would love to call you wrong but I agree. My fellow Phillies fans have been bowing to Utley too long. He will never be what he was 5 years ago. He has vanished for months at a time the last 4 seasons and his numbers have dropped each of those seasons. Maybe the best 2nd baseman ever to play for the Phillies but he can't be counted on moving forward. Howard is the key to this team and is by far and away the most valuable player on the team. He is the only source of power they have. Sadly he probably isn't going to be anything close to 100 percent this season. An achillies takes 11-12 months at least, add on that they removed muscle because he had an infection around his stitches and I don't think you see him a 100 percent until next season.

There would be enough interest in Hamels to ensure a large contract irrespective of Halladay's injury.

The larger question for the Phils is whether they are too old to compete at this point. If so they may look to trade Hamels before the deadline, for prospects or younger established players. If not, they would want to keep him. But again, there will be enough interest so that it shouldn't have much if any effect on what he ultimately makes.

I asked because I heard some discussion on the radio (Buster Olney, I believe) that the Phillies would be that much more desperate to hang on to Hamels if Doc is indeed seriously injured. A lot of people thought RAJ would let Cole walk after this season, but if the Phillies decide they need to pay him after all, doesn't that drive up his price on the open market? I'm just asking not advocating one way or the other.

Washed up? Im willing to bet whatever ur favorite team is he would come on and immediately assume the ace role of your staff!!! Doc is a beast and the fact that you call him mr home run giver shows u know absolutely nothing about this guy..so he gave up a couple bombs this year trying to pitch through a shoulder injury that clearly sapped his effectiveness...how about in Toronto when he would mow down the yanks and sox when they were offensive jugs at the time? or the first 2 years in Philly? 2 no hitters one was a prefect game in the playoffs? I'll take that washe up dude anytime!!!!

...which was also true yesterday.

The Phillies are an old team with a lot of long and expensive contracts and no impact bats or arms close to the majors. I doubt keeping Hamels will make a huge impact on their ability to compete the next few years.

It could be a LOT worse. And now the position players need to man up and HIT. CONSISTENTLY. There will be no Roy Halladay to bail you out!

Cole Hamels is now worth HOW much on the open market?

On a positive note, if the Phillies did manage to grab one of the playoff spots at least Halladay wouldn't be going in on his normal 250 innings pitched during the regular season. I don't think 6 to 8 weeks is bad at all. I'd rather he be healthy but at least it wasn't something that might have cost him the season. Fat Joe and Kendrick need to hold up their end.
