Pastornicky impressed everyone at the start of the year with a good approach at the plate, taking a lot of pitches and making the pitcher work. But then he just started swinging at everything and his defense is atrocious. He can take his -0.9 WAR to Gwinnett.

If .248/.281/.324 is brutal, what do you call veteran Jason Bartlett’s .133/.240/.193 ? Hell, Bartlett’s TEAM is hitting a collective .224/.301/.345 in a lot more ABs. In San Diego, Pastornicky would be considered a bright spot for the team.

Now I’ll do something more useful than pointing out unimportant mistakes in the blog post …

The talk during Spring Training was that Simmons was the better glove man, but Pastornicky had the better chance to contribute offensively. That obviously hasn’t happened, so they might as well take the defensive upgrade and continue hitting the shortstop in the eight hole.

Pastornicky did not play in Wednesday night’s 10-7 victory over the Cardinals

I know it’s nitpicking, but he actually did get into the game as a pinch runner tonight. Took Eric Hinske’s place on first base after Hinske drew a pinch-hit walk.
