The Rockies’ pitching is even worse than the Padres’ injury-riddled staff, and if the Rockies let him go…

Sure, Petco would cut down on the 11 homers he’s given up in 53 innings and 3 walks/9 is better than Volquez, but what about the 75 hits? And if the Rockies can’t score enough runs for him, how could the Padres?

Sorry. I enjoy longevity- I was a fan of Tommy John when I was a kid. I just don’t like when stat compilers pass far better players and the old-time HOF voters and other writers who place so much emphasis on them reward the lesser players at the expense of the better ones.

Uhhh, there are like 30 other pitchers not as good as Jamie Moyer is right now at not allowing runs in MLB. I don’t see why everyone thinks he won’t find a job.

I have followed his career since he broke in with the Cubs, he and Greg Maddux both came up to stay in the late 80′s…I too hope this is not the end…The Cubs are not likely to be interested, but that’d be a nice story, if he could finish where he began.

I hope he gets another chance, both this year and next, as I would love to see a 50 year old pitcher. But, if he doesn’t, it has been an impressive ride, and I wish him the best.

Even if he has struggled this year, he is a better pitcher than a lot of guys 20 years younger than him (referring mostly to guys in the minors and/or struggling worse).

I would have agreed with that a few weeks ago. But, the young guys (Diamond, Walters, to a lesser extent DeVries) have pitched fairly well so far. We’ll see if they can keep it up, but they could help turn it around if they can get a couple of young starters to pitch even well enough to give the team a chance most days.

When the Rays are faced with the prospect of having no one under 30 available to start, they should break their streak by signing Moyer to start the game. Why not? This is the team that gave Jim Morris a shot.

SD will pick him up for sure and have him only pitch home evening games with dank Marine layer. They need arms badly, any arm will do at this point. At least for one or two starts they’ll give it a try.

I think Coors Field just got in his head. He changed his game to try to be successful there, and what was working there wasn’t working elsewhere. His strikeout rate is up this year, which isn’t usually his style–I think maybe he was trying to strike out more batters to avoid the long ball, instead of letting guys get themselves out. With a little time to get his head on straight, he could be a good option for fifth starter on a few teams. Looking deeper into his batted ball numbers, I think he just had an unlucky month of May.

Yeah I watched the Reds/Rockies game when he last pitched, and it wasn’t pretty. Not going to get any good press when your team hits 5 HR for you and you lose the game. Somebody will need an arm, bet he gets picked up.

Wouldn’t mind seeing the Phillies pick him up, even if it’s just temporary. With Kendrick taking Halladay’s spot in the rotation they could use a new long reliever, which could be a good fit for Moyer.

I saw him win the historic game in person at Coors Field. I don’t think you can blame the venue for the lack of success he had after that. The players in that game (SD) tried to screw themselves into the ground to kill his pitches. After that, teams seemed to catch on to his lack of speed and were more patient. Once they started waiting on his pitches, he became like BP to teams.

I think it’s great what he achieved over a marvelous career, but I doubt that he can pitch more effectively somewhere else.

Surely someone with a non-insane home park will pick him up, even if it’s just for depth. He still looks good compared to Mike Minor. His BABIP is way, way above his last few years’ numbers, and he actually had decent results in April. He’s a decent pitcher who has had a terrible month. Surely there’s someone in a front office who can see that.
