Sheesh. Doyle Alexander at 37 years old for John Smoltz was a high prospect for a win now player trade. Starlin Castro is 22 years old. 22! At age 21, he recorded 207 hits! yes, his fielding needs work, but at age 21, he put up similar, if not better, numbers than Jose Reyes at age 21 (except for SB). He should only get better from here. Not saying he’s the next Ty Cobb or anything, but he’s been pretty good for such a young player.

Being blown away by a trade offer for Castro means:

The Dodgers offer kershaw or Kemp
The Giants offer Cain
The Mariners offer Hernandez
The Nationals offer Harper or Strasburg
The Tigers offer Verlander

These are blow away offers and NONE are going to happen

Any trade for Castro would take at least 2 nearly major league ready impact prospects (think Anthony Rizzo). I’m not sure any team has enough bullets in the minors, but the Mets sure as hell don’t.
