David Wright will not discuss contract extension during season

Most feel that a contract extension between the Mets and David Wright is inevitable, but those clamoring for a quick resolution will have to wait a while.

According to Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com, Wright told Ed Coleman on the Mets’ pre-game show on WFAN tonight that he will not discuss a contract during the season.

This really isn’t a big deal. While Wright is in the final year of his six year, $55 million contract, the Mets hold a $16 million club option on him for next season which they will almost certainly exercise. There shouldn’t be a huge sense of urgency for the Mets to get a deal done right now, especially with Wright coming off the two most productive months he has had in a long time. Likewise, Wright just saved himself from having to answer the same questions day after day for the rest of the summer. Pretty smart move, really. Look for negotiations to pick up during the offseason.

    Great Gatsby

I saw “The Great Gatsby” yesterday. Gatsby is my favorite novel of all time. The movie was not the book and if your basis for slamming it is that it’s not the book, well, your standards and expectations probably need to be checked. Deciding beforehand that I’d not make my judgment of it dependent upon…

Phillies 3, Reds 2: Aroldis Chapman is usually automatic. But he surrendered back-to-back bombs to the murderers row that is Erik Kratz and Freddy Galvis as the Philly walked off Cincinnati. Heck, the inning started with Chapman walking Delmon Young on four straight pitches, so you know he wasn’t on it yesterday. And Cliff Lee…
