Dodgers, Diamondbacks, Phillies all have some interest in Youkilis

Jun 3, 2012, 11:49 AM EDT

Kevin Youkilis

Is Kevin Youkilis on the block?  The anonymous sources say yes, the GM says no.  But whatever the Red Sox’ intentions are, Jon Heyman reports that there are three teams who are interested in Youk:  The Dodgers, Diamondbacks and Phillies.

Talks are “very preliminary,” he says, but they always start that way.  And there wouldn’t seem to be a great rush by anyone to get serious yet, as the deadline is still nearly two months away and none of the interested parties are so far out of their respective division leads or so far ahead in the case of the Dodgers to have to move right this second.

Somehow I can’t picture him in anything except a Red Sox uniform.

As I said yesterday, he’s as good as gone. The Sox will get as much as they can for him and he’ll move on. He’s still got a lot left and will help whoever he goes to.

Grass is green. Oranges are orange.

I just wanted to play the “state the obvious” game as well.

“He’s as good as gone” is not obvious, nor is “He’s still got a lot left”. These are both opinions that are very much open to debate. Which is exactly what the comments are for.

If I was a Red Sox fan, I would want them to hold on to him a bit longer to improve his trade value. Right now it is on the low end.

That was my first reaction. Also, their bench is rather thin right now, and are they really so sold on Middlebrooks? He has had a great debut, but his stats in the minors weren’t that impressive.

However, this is the last guaranteed year of Youkilis’s contract, so if they do want to trade him, they don’t have a lot of time to wait for his value to go up (assuming they wouldn’t want to pick up his $13 million option for next year).

I’m surprised the Feesh haven’t enquired about Youccchhh. That guy who got his face eaten out on the Romero Causeway needs a transplant and he’s even desperate enough to….oh wait, you say he’s not really that desperate?…OK, sorry never mind.

I heard Yuke was considered for the role of Curly in the new Three Stooges movie but ultimately was deemed to be too ugly.

Dodgers would happily toss in Loney, but would probably need to toss in a pitcher……

    • lanflfan - Jun 4, 2012 at 3:37 PM

As much as I would love to see Loney gone, Boston already has too many 1B, adding another one who can’t hit probably won’t happen.

Anybody that gets Yuke is a winner. Yuke is a 500 OBP. That’s really awesome. I don’t get why Red Sox would trade him?

No team will give up much for this team cancer boy!! He is washed up once he leaves that little match box of a ball park. All numbers are inflated due to that joke Fenway Park and the world knows it. Ask Mo Vaughn.
