Whatever. Even great pitchers get shelled once in a while. One game means squat in describing Appel’s mental toughness or predicting his career.

Kris Benson’s career wasn’t a total disappointment. He met his future wife Anna while in the minors. You’ll understand when you Google “Anna Benson”

And it was super regionals, not the world series. Super regianals are the college equivalent of the LCS. It’s the 2nd round of the post season.

Kris Benson got shelled in the CWS and never turned out. Interesting.
(im sure plenty of guys have done well though in the same situation). It does raise questions about mental toughness though.

In fact a quick google of “mocked in round” returned exactly 10 results, all from draft type blogs or columns.

Wheras a google of “mocked for being” (the more traditional and common use of the word) returned for 12,000 plus results.

Stanford vs Florida State…
1) Is not part of the College World Series; that is applied only to the final 8 teams, the ones that get to go to Omaha.
2) Is a Super Regional matchup. Stanford is thus already in the second round of the NCAA championship, having advanced past Fresno State, Michigan State, and Pepperdine in the Regionals (the first round).

Florida State is the #3 national seed and thus favored over Stanford. As a ‘Noles fan, I was quite pleased with the 17-1 result today, nothing against young Mr Appel.

I absolutely believe you, but god, it’s awful. And it makes me picture the old “Saturday Night Live” “DO YOU MOCK ME?” skit performed by a bunch of hopeful draftees instead of John Malkovich and Jon Lovitz.

It is common, but still incorrect. Like saying something “manifests itself” (a very common mis-usage in print media)….phenomena simply manifest (the reflexive is redundant and unnecessary).

“mocked by most experts”. No experts mocked him…it is the draft that is a mock (a noun)…not players that are mocked (the verb).

I’m assuming it’s a typo that will fixed soon, but I’d like to state for the record that “On Monday night he fell to the eighth spot in the MLB Amateur Draft after being mocked by most experts to go in the top three” is the best and most Freudian HBT opening paragraph ever.
