Just as long as they don’t expect him to be ready next season. There’s no way that happens. I guess the Cubs are still in the mix, but I’m not all that excited. None of us know anything about this kid. There’s just not a lot of footage of him playing. A handful of scouts have seen him, and that’s about it.

My naive assessment is one where all MLB owners putt winning above excessive profits. Yes they should earn a living, but the teams revenues should be utilized in fielding championship talent. Always. The fans will reward this type of ownership.

Braves need an outfielder and chippers contract is coming off the books. They also saved money by trading lowe. They have a shot but not likely. They have proven in recent years that profit margin is their goal over winning. Maybe one day they can figure a deep playoff runs is profitable otherwise they are going to have to lose badly and braves value to plummet. That will be a good thing, it would be nice to have an owner that cares about on the field performance.

I hope the NY Post being in NY has some inside info that the Yankees are the front runners here in signing Soler. Time will tell.

And one of a scouting director’s favorite things is raw but intriguing talent. The team that signs Soler better hope it doesn’t turn out to be Wily Mo Pena-type raw but intriguing talent.
