It's not the competition, but Round Rock went on the road and Frisco is playing at home. Frisk happens to be about 20 miles from Arlington. The Rangers have a homestand this week and he can use the Rangers facilities for the between starts regimen as well as the staff monitoring the start. He needs to get his arm stretched out more than anything and throwing pitches to AA hitters is no different than throwing to AAA hitters.

or.... you know... you can not be such an ass... w/e

Bart: Let me get this straight: we're behind the rest of our class and we're going to catch up to them by going slower than they are? Coo Coo!
[rest of the class starts mindlessly chanting "Coo coo!", forcing the teacher to individually snap them out of it]

yeah, because the yankees always rehab their stars in AAA because it's the better competition as opposed to in AA Trenton which is closer to their team's headquarters.

Wait, did I say always? I meant pretty much never. Where did Jeter rehab last year? Trenton. Where is Robertson rehabbing this week? Trenton.

But I guess you'll just spout off that the Yankees are smart for doing this because, well, they're the Yankees, but the Rangers are stupid for doing the same exact thing, because, well, they aren't the Yankees. And I'd expect nothing less from you.

very true ravens...in Roberts' case it makes even more sense: reducing travel also increase's an injured player's ability to stay on a regimented training schedule without it being interrupted by bus trips, etc. Of course that doesn't apply quite so much in Oswalt's situation since he isn't hurt, so I didn't mention it initially.

It's also easier for the big league club to send the GM or whoever to keep an eye on him if the AA team is somewhat local. Especially in this case where they have to make a tough decision whether to bring him up a week early or not because they're so thin in the rotation right now

happens all the time. Star players rehab according to most team's minor league home schedules Easy. For two reasons:

1) reduces unnecessary travel
2) shares the boost attendance and revenue across multiple teams in the Ranger's system

This has far more to do with money and convenience than it does the level of competition or even Oswalt's getting knocked around last week. Then, he was most likely treating it like a ST game and sharpening a specific pitch or trying something a little different. For example, if he was working on refining a curve, after he throws it 22 times in the first 2 innings, even an AAA guy can figure out to sit on it and smash the thing next time. It's not like Oswalt's trying to pitch a no-hitter or anything. It's far more to his benefit to refine and sharpen his arsenal than it is to try to strikeout a bunch of overmatched kids.
