The Dodgers are “definitely interested” in Ryan Dempster

Danny Knobler of CBS says that the Dodgers are “definitely interested” in acquiring Ryan Dempster.

Get in line. Dempster is easily the most attractive rent-an-arm on the market at the moment, and he said he is willing to waive his 10-5 rights to move on from Chicago.  If you’re the Cubs, you have to figure that you’re in the catbird seat here, as there is no rush to deal until every buyer identifies itself.

On the year Dempster is 2-3 but has a 2.31 ERA and has struck out 63 batters in 74 innings while walking 20.

Bring us some prospects! As a cub fan will miss him as a good pitcher and good leader, but he has put in his time and deserves to be on a winning team.

He’s our longest tenured Cub now, and I know he’s likely got a few starts left with us.

Thanks for everything, Ryan. You’re one of the most durable, reliable starters we’ve had in decades. Hope we can at least get 2 good prospects for you.

I love how the Dodgers are back being players in the market. All is right in the world.

I don’t get why the Dodgers are kicking tires on starting pitchers… with Kershaw, Billingsley, Capuano, Harang, Eovaldi, and Lilly if he gets healthy, the Dodgers have 6 starters ranging from the reiging Cy Young winner to the not-terrible, decent back-of-the rotation innings eater that is Harang. In the middle you’ve got the frustratingly hot and cold Billingsley, the high upside Eovaldi, and Capuano, who’s always struck out a ton of guys, and has been lights out this season.

Heres the risk with waiting to trade Demp, while he has always been a servicable starter, he is pitching way beyond expectations right now. What if he comes back down to earth before the trade deadline? Now is the time to sell high on him. Hate to see him go, but what we can expect in return should make this trade exciting.
