Actually, while Bonds was a colossal dickwad (puts A-Rod to shame in that category), I had a tremendous amount of respect for what he did as a baseball player. Top ten hitter of all time, easily. Like, before even GoS accused him of taking anything more than a protein shake.

He might have had a few off African-American pitchers in off-season exhibitions. He might have had a couple off Latino pitchers, since some were allowed to play in the Majors as long as their skins were white enough.

I don’t like ARod because:
– He used PEDs
– He plays for the Yankees
– He comes across as very smug and self-absorbed to me
– He does dumb stuff like knock the ball out of the 1st baseman’s glove

But, I can still respect the fact that he is an incredibly good baseball player. The PEDs may have inflated the numbers slightly, but he still would have put up incredible numbers during his career regardless.

Can someone explain this overuse to me, as if I’m a 5 year old?

Venters:
’10 – 83 IP – 350 Batters Faced
’11 – 88 IP – 357 Batters Faced

Kimbrel:
’10 – 76.1IP – 318 Batters Faced (most spent in minors)
’11 – 77 IP – 248 Batters Faced

Was the extra 7 batters and 5 additional innings too much for Venters? Was the reduction in batters faced and .2 more IP too much for Kimbrel?

What does everyone have against Arod? By all accounts hes a great teammate and a great mentor to young players. Did you forget that it was Arod who moved off SS to accommodate the defensively inferior Jeter when he was traded? Have you not read all the stories of how Robinson Cano credits him with teaching him the dedication to hard work it takes to be a perennial MVP? Have you not read the stories about all the clothes he’s purchased for young players like Melky Cabrera, just called up to the show?

Yes Arod has done some dumb things in career like the minotaur painting and steroids. And Yes he is overpaid, But the fact remains his teammates love him, and he loves them back and helps them to do nothing but get better.

This leads to me to only one conclusion. People are jealous haters.

So the Yanks may get to Mendoza with the juiced sacks after all. Yay-Rod, except… it takes some horrific managing to put him in that spot, gifted a lefty who can’t put his best stuff over the plate, who’s already piled the runners on because the same manager who burned Venters out last year from overuse won’t yank him soon enough… must be hard to be a Braves fan, because it sure is hard as a fan of the game to see such routine idiocy on display

A-Rod has disappeared so much from the national narrative lately that I had to go look up his stats. It’s easy to criticize the highest paid player around. But I have to say that an OPS+ of 115 while being on track for 30 home runs is not too shabby, especially for a 36 year old. I wish my third baseman hit that well. And it’s not A-Rod’s fault the Yankees paid him too much for too long. The man is a sure HOF’er.
