Capps has a 2.96 ERA right now, converted 14/15 saves, walked 3 and struck out 14 in 24 innings so far.

Ramos is hitting .265 (right at his career average, has been consistent every year) with only 5 XBH, and is a below average catcher.

Drew Butera is on the Twins roster now because Ramos is gone and has been about the same player as Ramos offensively, and is one of the better defensive catcher’s in the league. Just ask Liriano (who Butera has caught every game of his since his resurgance).

This was a brilliant trade – for the Twins.

Ok I’ll bite. Since you know so much and are so powerful. Please enlighten me as to which federal statute is being violated when a 19 year old drinks a beer in the United states let alone Canada.. Just one cite, should be pretty easy since you know it so well and I know nothing.

I would also like any relevant statute claiming that you are under US federal law when visiting a foreign nation, I would LOVE to see that.

You are very quick to tell people they are wrong but you offer no evidence in support of your case.

That’s a clown analysis, bro.

There is no federal law prohibiting minors from drinking. There is a law that told the states that they have to make the minimum drinking age 21 or they lose highway money, but that’s it. If you drink under 21 you can only violate a state law.

Additionally, once he is in Canada he is subject to their laws whether he is there for business or for pleasure. Kid can drink all he wants in Canada.

I’m talking on a scouting level. I’m no scout, but scouts agree that Harper has top-of-the-charts power, meaning 40+ HR per year in this environment. They also see Trout’s power as being in the 20-25 HR range.

One guy might surpass the other, we have no way of knowing. I hope both guys live up to their potential and have long careers.

I think you’ll find that’s not entirely correct. For Harper to work in Canada, he has to have a valid work visa.

As an American working in a foreign country (under which he is still subject to pay American taxes), he is still subject to federal law. The federal drinking age is 21.

Harper might be legal under Canadian law to drink at 19, but under American federal law, it is illegal for him to drink in Canada, and he is subjec to federal sanctions if any issues should arise.

State Department officials are notoriously anti-sports, and they do pay attention to things like this. Considering all of this, Harper could very well end up being the clown.

Knowledge is power, and power trumps attitude anyday.

Thats true the games are later. I don’t see where Harper has more/better power than Trout. I also don’t see how Harper is going to magically surpass Trout’s talent as they are both going to mature and grow. Either way they will both be fun to watch for years to come.

Trout is better than Harper *right now*. We’ll see what happens later. But Craig (I think) wrote up a bit on Trout and how he has managed to fly under the radar by comparison. His conclusions were that East Coast writers don’t stay up for the late games, and that Trout wasn’t hyped nearly as much.

It helps that Harper has 80 power, while Trout does not.

The Nats’ TV guys commented the last two nights about how Harper was exchanging pleasantries with, and being serenaded by, fans in the outfield seats at The Stadium Formerly Known as Sky Dome. How much of the fan reaction was mean-spirited and how much was good-spirited is impossible to tell on TV, but I have to think it got more good-spirited as time went on.

I went and watched Harper being asked the question. A few thoughts.
1. Who is the idiot who asked that question? Was it actually a baseball writer or some puts who got credentials because he writes for TMZ or some silly entertainment web site?
2. Harper is a Mormon so I doubt he even drinks.
3. Harper handled the thing perfectly.
4. This kid is really something special. I am psyched to watch him play my Yankees all weekend.

I don’t think so. I think he viewed it as something Capt. Obvious would ask and a trap. Regardless of how legal it was for him to drink in CA it would still be looked down upon at home if he made a public statement that yes he intends to imbibe. What would his parents say?

Whether or not he did it is moot. Stating in the affirmative publicly would be a mistake. Good choice, kid.
